TERRIBLE WEEKEND !!! I know that this is supposed to be a great weekend but it hasn't been. Yesterday, we were going out to my brother's house for dinner. I decided to defrost some food that was in the downstairs upright freezer. The door was slightly open and all the food on the door was defrosted. There was some wet on the floor. The food inside still felt a bit frozen, but we don't want anyone to get food poisoning. We have to figure out if it's safe to eat. We looked things over quickly so we wouldn't be late for my brother. Ok, we're at the dinner. There was close to 20 people there. All of a sudden, I hear my sister scream and saw that my mother fell. My first thought is that she got ill and fell off her seat. Thankfully that wasn't the case. It turned out the chair broke. My mother isn't a heavy woman, for the record. I don't know how the chair broke. My mother is fine. She didn't fall on her head, thankfully. Anyhow, our uncle called from Montreal today and he told us about how his oven broke, just as they were cooking a turkey. Then he proceeded to tell us about our aunt's friend. She came over to their house for dinner on Friday. She had a horrible headache. Next day, it turned out it was a brain aneurysm and she had to have emergency brain surgery. She's now in a medically induced coma. They don't know her prognosis yet. I have heard this before. If you have the worst headache you ever had, go to the emergency of a hospital to have it checked out. It really puts things in perspective. Yes, our mom fell but she's fine, we lost money from spoiled food (which is expensive and I feel bad about it), my uncle's oven needs replacing but all that is nothing, compared to what my aunt's friend and family is going through. Be grateful for what you have. Things can be taken away in an instant. Elaine Shuel |

There is one blessing about that weekend, Elaine. It can't get much worse than it already is, can it? I hope your Aunt comes out of this okay and she recovers. Best wishes for the future for all of you who have suffered problems over the weekend.. Alfie...

Sorry to hear about your aunt's friend, I hope she recovers quickly. You are so right about the other problems this weekend, not so bad when you look at it from a different perspective.

Wow! When it rains it pours. We take things for granted too often. Things change so fast. My life did that a long time ago. I woke up normal and by the end of the day it felt like mountains had fallen on me. I will never regret my "Changing Day". What you experienced was only a nudge. Celebrate your spoiled meat-- I will be praying for your Aunts friend. Take care my friend. Elaine Shuel

Yes, thank heavens my mother wasn't hurt. We were scared but she was nice and calm. Thanks for the prayers for my aunt's friend, Helen. She needs them. Elaine Shuel

I'm glad you and Jim had a good weekend and enjoyed those crepes, ET. I know you've had plenty of stress from your brother-in-law's health and I'm sorry about that. On my end, the biggest worry is for my aunt's friend. I hope she'll be alright. Thanks for your comment. Elaine Shuel

Thanks Roxy. It does put everything into perspective. Food is replaceable, people are not. Elaine Shuel

Oh gosh Elaine, what a weekend you had OMG!! Well mine began on Friday when my DIL was hospitalized with a lung infection (she's asthmatic). She was in ICU until Sunday. She's doing much better now but very tired. We were certainly worried about her. So I have SIL who enjoys entertaining all the relatives so that's where Sunday dinner was held. I agree with you ... 'food is replaceable people are not''!!
