WHO HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION? I always admired strong women. Growing up I loved watching Marlo Thomas in That Girl, the Mary Tyler Moore show and Candice Bergen as Murphy Brown. What do they have in common? They were all intelligent women, independent, funny and SINGLE. Hmmm perhaps they weren't the best choices for me to admire. All kidding aside, they were women I looked up to. On a personal level, I look up to my sister. Without any help, she did well for herself. She bought a house and car and has a good job. She's been a wonderful sister and a great . After I grew up, my parents inspired me. My dad was very brave when he found out he was dying. I admired his strength and courage until his dying breath. My mom learned to walk again, after her benign brain tumor took away her ability to walk. She had the tumor removed and in her 80s DID learn to walk again. My mother is a strong, determined woman and I will always be amazed by how well she overcame what was thrown at her. Who has inspired you? Elaine Shuel |

I guess the guy I was most inspired by was the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Growing up I would devour his books, they were great stories and I wish there were some that I hadn't read. But alas, I've read them all! Alfie...

It would have been James in the Bible, describing the utopia of inter-personal relationships. Beyond that the vision of Bill Gates is very inspiring. Elizabeth Warren seems to connect with the conscience of America and I have admired the incredible life of Jerry Brown. Another who inspires me, also a man with a vision and a sense of fairness is Michael Moore. If there is one American who other than criminals who I feel represents the absolute worst it would be Sean Hannity...a terrible, arrogant human being who has been a national disgrace. Elaine Shuel

Terrific answer, Pat, thank you. How terrifying it must have been when that old patient died while feeding her. You definitely should have been told it wasn't your fault. Your answer reminded me of my math teacher, when I was growing up in Montreal. He used to call me "little red". I was good in math and he always encouraged me. He was also the school principal. He made math so much fun. He brought in math games to teach us and make it enjoyable at the same time. He was the perfect teacher. Elaine Shuel

Toss up between my mom and dad. They both REEKED of integrity, and when I grew up I realized that required them to have immense courage to do it. Dad has a slight edge for the joy he got from thinking deeply, and openness to consider other viewpoints. I have known hundreds of people after that who inspired me, but if it weren't for my mom and dad I'd never have noticed the value in others. GBU all, and thanks for letting me reminisce about mom and dad. I still miss them. Gavin

There are probably many people who inspired me. Firstly my parents instilled in me to do my best they were proud of what I did in my life. I recall an instructor I had when I did the Dale Carnegie course. He encouraged me every week of the course as he knew how difficult it was for me. Public speaking wasn't my thing and we had to give a speech every week. At the end of the course he congratulated me for finishing the course and getting my certificate.

In my mind, I was thinking about who inspired me while growing up. I should have added that my parents inspired me beyond my childhood. My dad was very brave when he found out he was dying. I admired his strength and courage until his dying breath. My mom learned to walk again, after her benign brain tumor took away her ability to walk. My aunt Eileen was a big inspiration to me. She was a loving and caring daughter to her parents and a wonderful sister to my father and her other siblings who was always there for them when she was needed whether it was with nursing care or financial support. Needless to say she was a great help to me in my formative years and beyond. I wont be in here very often from now on Elaine, but I will pop in from time to time to say "Hi." Wishing you a very Happy Easter
