Pheromones

As described by Medical News Today online:

A pheromone is a chemical an animal produces which changes the behavior of another animal of the same species (animals include insects). Some describe pheromones as behavior-altering agents. Many people do not know that pheromones trigger other behaviors in the animal of the same species, apart from sexual behavior.

Pheromones, unlike most other hormones are ectohormones - they act outside the body of the individual that is secreting them - they impact a behavior on another individual. Hormones usually only affect the individual that is secreting them.

Pheromones can be secreted to trigger many types of behaviors, including:

Alarm
To follow a food trail
Sexual arousal
To tell other female insects to lay their eggs elsewhere. Called epideictic pheromones
To respect a territory
To bond (mother-baby)
To back off.

Despite the article being about animals, researchers are finding more evidence that human pheromones exist.

Before I met my boyfriend, there was a guy I met that I knew wasn't for me. He was quite taken by me but I was upfront with him. He said that he loves natural redheads and said we give off pheromones that attract him. Honestly, I had never heard that word before. I have however been turned on by the smell of a cologne I bought an ex boyfriend many years ago. When he put it on, I went crazy (in a good way). One day I noticed that a guy on a subway was wearing that cologne and I almost followed him at his stop. I stopped myself but the smell did wild things to me that I can't explain.

What I'm about to write is even more odd, because when I went on my trip, I brought home some pictures. I LOVE leopard prints. Not all of them but most. I have leopard print blouses and other things I won't mention (I don't want to get into trouble on here). I brought home a picture of a leopard. When I look at it, I get a strange arousal (not for the leopard, of course). It just does something to me. I can't explain it but it's true. There's no smell to a picture so I don't know why it affects me this way.

I hope others get similar experiences or I guess I'm just too easily aroused.

Thanks Pat. Yes, there are women and even some men, that bathe in cologne. I'm not sure why they do that. Less is more. It's too bad she ruined that scent for you.

Hi Elaine: A few years ago there was a cologne called "Mambo" and one whiff of it was like an instant aphrodisiac or for a man maybe quicker than taking Viagra. Was that the cologne you're talking about?

Recently I was in Wal Mart and a man came up to me and told me I was 'alluring'. Maybe it was my pheromones? lol

Elaine I am not into loud smelling colognes and perfumes. At one time I used to wear Eau de Toilette all the time. I don't wear perfume as it is much too strong for me. I can't say they are a turn on but it used to be certain colognes that men wore really caught my attention. Years ago Chanel No. 5 was the number one perfume that women wore. I recall receiving a bottle of it as a present from a man. It wasn't a favorite of mine but it was special. If you received that from a man then it meant something to me. I only wear Ombrerose now and it is hard to find. So I wear it very sparingly.

Glad to hear it's not just me, bijou. It was Pierre Cardin cologne. I bought my boyfriend the whole kit with after shave and such. I haven't smelled it for many years now. I wonder if I would be equally taken by it if some guy wore it today.

Those pheromones are powerful so that guy in Walmart might have been powerless to resist.

Thanks Shartaun03. Chanel No. 5 was certainly quite popular. I'm not familiar with Ombrerose but it sounds nice.

I wear Ivoire de Balmain and have for many years now. I've gotten many compliments wearing it. I smelled it at Holt Renfrew and asked what that scent was. I was hooked immediately. However, it was my ex boyfriend's Pierre Cardin that totally attracted me. I would have had my current boyfriend wear it but he is allergic to perfume. .

Elaine I think when I started to wear Ombrerose I tried it on at the Bay or Eatons as I was looking for a new perfume. They suggested Ombrerose and I got hooked on it and have worn it ever since. Jean-Charles Brosseau Ombre Rose was introduced in 1981. Created by Francoise Caron with notes of coumarin, vanilla, ylang ylang, lily of the valley, rose, orris, sandalwood, musk and honey. Ombre Rose is one of fragrances from the last 100 years that Roja Dove believes to be the true classics of their decade.” So there is the trivia on my perfume.
