Should women dye their hair? I have pondered this for awhile now. When I was younger, I was called the usual redheaded things like rusty, carrot top, little red and more. It bothered me being a redhead. As I got older, I started getting a ton of compliments about my red hair and suddenly I was happy to be a redhead. It's part of who I am but as we age hair color changes and even though I am still mainly red, there are parts that are white/grey. I asked my hairdresser and she said people pay to have my hair color but I'm not sure if she's right. Do you think a woman should/shouldn't color her hair? If I did, I would just keep my natural color to color the areas that are no longer red. Men have it good in this area, as women know. I think salt and pepper hair is very distinguished and sexy. Happy Family Day to all my fellow Canadians!!! Elaine Shuel |

Wow, that's more redheads than I have ever met. Good for you, Dan. Elaine Shuel

Cute expressions, Maisie. I have an aunt that died her hair since her 30s. Her hair turned completely grey at that time. In her 60s she stopped and went au natural and she's happy. That's all that counts. Elaine Shuel

That reminds me of my Aunt. It is definitely a personal preference and for now, I won't be doing anything. I may change my mind later but that's a woman's prerogative. Elaine Shuel

I hope everything turns out alright, regarding your treatments. I wish you the best. Elaine Shuel

I do not -- I wear wigs -- have for 20 Yrs -- love it and much easier then all those chemicals in your hair lol Elaine Shuel

That's an interesting opinion. Makeup is often used to mask some of a woman's true appearance. It can make a cheekbone look higher and cover imperfections. Is that really any different? Elaine Shuel

I agree with Da. I have colored mine for some time. Being a natural blond I thought I would go white early like my aunts but no. I did, around the edges but the top, of my head got darker, leaving me looking like a Dalmatian. I still covet long white hair. As of last summer I settled for almost white blond, or what uses to be called platinum. I don't need to do it nearly as often so hopefully soon.......... Spiritwoman ^i^

That's what I have, streaks of white/grey. If I ever did decide to take the plunge, I would just try to get my natural shade back. My hair has definitely gotten lighter with age. Elaine Shuel

I've heard that dye is bad for the health, but then again so is shampoo, soap and almost everything we use. Elaine Shuel

You do what you feel comfortable with and how you feel in your own skin. No one else's opinion should matter. You should simply do it for yourself. I've always had dark hair and about 3 years ago (an amazement to my family), I noticed a little grey at the temples and a few at the crown. I have my hair cut & styled about every 5 to 6 weeks and my hairdresser brought it to my attention. But she felt it was so minimal that actually dying my hair might be futile but it was up to me. I was so surprised at her response. In any event, I do my own touch-ups with boxed colour (no ammonia... can't take the odour) and it looks quite natural. Great genes.. so I have great thick hair and good skin. Not sure how long that will last but any help I can give myself, I will. No, ET, sorry but I disagree with you, even though I have seen some fake ones but for the most part the women I know who do colour their hair DO NOT look fake! They do it because they care about themselves, as should be!

I've dyed my hair since the grey started to show. I like to feel and look younger. Some women suit grey/white hair.... mine would be a muddy colour. I love it light brown with ash blonde steaks it!! Do what you feel works for YOU!!!!

I wish my red hair got darker instead of lighter. It's strawberry blonde and some people used to say it's blond. It was never blond. Elaine Shuel

Thanks for that comment, Pattie. I haven't noticed any change in the texture of my hair where the streaks are. I'm glad when you dye it, it feels better. By the way, I love your tag line. Elaine Shuel

Elaine.... I would get a consultation with a good hairdresser. Check with friends whose hair colours you like. Yes, I would think that your colour would be more difficult to match, but a professional 'worth their salt' should have no trouble.

I have my hair styled and coloured about every six weeks and I totally agree with Salsa's comment.

I agree that it's much like wearing makeup and other things to enhance your appearance. I personally don't see anything wrong with it IF it's something that would make YOU happy. Elaine Shuel

Thanks for that input. I'm not sure there would be the right shade of red in a box, to match my natural color. I've never really been great with doing things to my hair. Is it that easy to do?
| ||
|
Yes, it is easy (at least I think so). I do know of a few who colour their red (various shades), including my sister who was originally a blonde! Elaine Shuel

It obviously makes you happy. Feeling good about yourself is important. Good for you!!! Elaine Shuel
