Government Housing in Affluent Neighborhoods

The latest move to "equality"? "Affordable housing in wealthy neighborhoods.

My choice? A tenement next to Barbara Streisand (or ANY of the limo libs in Hollywood).

2nd: One of the Guest Houses at Hearst Castle.

3rd: Hang any commu-dem who supports this.

Interspersing affordable housing into middle class areas helps to, on the whole, provide positive role models.

Ghettoizing those who, for whatever reason, need subsidized housing has proven to be a huge disaster.

btw: Is a place available next to Tom Selleck??

We don't have 'government housing' where I live in Canada. Each apartment building here must allocate 20% of their rental units for people with low incomes. Low income people then pay 1/3 of their income to their landlord and the government pays the difference out of tax revenues. So it's a win-win situation for everyone. The landlords get their full rent, low income people live in decent apartments, and no-one ever knows who is getting government subsidies.

Remember the song, "I'd love to change the world..." "tax the rich, feed the poor, till there are no rich no more". So, you want to be Tom Selleck's hell? On the whole more BS. Sorry... Govt just getting too pushy.

We may also have that type of housing in Canada Maisie but I don't know if we do or not. Abortion is legal here and paid for by our government health insurance, and condoms are probably free too and paid for by the government (lol), so there might not be a lot of single mothers on welfare with multiple baby daddies for all their children. We have safeguards against unpaid child support here. Child support is automatically deducted out of the fathers' paycheque before he ever gets it.

Hi Roxy: I agree that Canada really seems to care about their citizens. Low income doesn't just mean unemployed single mothers or fathers. They can also be employed and not making enough to raise their children. With the huge cost of housing, child care, clothes, food, etc., I don't see why some people look down on single parents or think their children all have different fathers?? Low income housing isn't all about having a bunch of children and scamming the welfare system. Senior citizens, physically or mentally disabled people, veterans, etc. are also considered low income.
