Too Close to Home? Somehow, my musing on the misuse of language has gone away. Here is a reprint: We've "advanced" so far that basic communications are used by some to camouflage what they say. It's mostly a lawyer thing and has been refined by politicians to provide "plausible deniability". Some, like Bill Clinton, lie (as he says of himself) "because he can". There are other manifestations. If someone seems to be a pathological liar and claims it's "sarcasm", my red flags go up. It's just not as clever and attractive as some think. |
