Now Here's a Recipe For You!! Our sorority had a bunco party the other night and I won a prize for having the most buncos. I chose a cookbook as I enjoy cooking and read cookbooks like a novel! I have quite a lot of them. This book was from a sister chapter in southeastern Indiana. I was browsing through the book and saw this recipe. First I laughed and then said...gotta share this one!! Barbequed Racoon 1 racoon 2 large onions, quartered 8 potatoes, peeled and quartered 1 lb. carrots, cut into 2-inch pieces 32 oz. bottle hickory smoked barbeque sauce Dress and wash the racoon carefully so no hair clings to meat. Be sure the scent glands, located under the legs, have been removed. Chill dressed coon in saltwater overnight in refrigerator. The next day, rinse coon off and place in a steamer with some fresh water. Steam for 60 to 90 minutes until meat is tender. Let cool and pick meat off the bones; remove any fat. Place meat in a roasting pan. Add potatoes, onions and carrots; salt and pepper to taste. Pour barbeque sauce over all also. Mix around some, but try to keep the onions from coming apart. Bake at 350º for 2 hours. Note: Can be cooked in a large oven cooking bag for easy cleanup. I realize some of you may have eaten coon but I haven't. I really have no intention of trying it either! haha Wondering if road kill racoon would already be tenderized????? Enjoy your meal. Maybe a large cold beer would help this go down better!! |

What a wonderful delicacy!! I should be arriving at your place by dinner time Wednesday or Thursday of next week. Do you want me to bring the raccoon with me or do you already have one? I spotted one that had been run over and killed out on SR212, it wasn't too badly flattened and I could go pick it up, let me know before someone else gets it, OK? They don't last long here in Georgia. This sounds like the ideal starter to me. Any chance of us having this before we have the decadent peanut butter pie? Alfie..
