Aging Homo Sapiens and The War On Terror.

The Super Bowl is on virtual lock down, the Olympics are on lock down, airports are on lock down, so Helga and I are wondering who is winning this War on Terror? We would really like to hear your opinion. How do we stop all this?

Yours Tagalder75

I have no idea. It is an inbreeding trait that short of genocide can not be eradicated. A hatred so strong that love of man can not conquer.

There are over one billion Moslems. Genocide would be a little difficult.

The faster the groups who can't read for themselves their holy books, the sooner they will begin to question the radical interpretations of some of their religious leaders.....imho.

I don't often disagree with you Rocket but the pilots who flew those planes on 9/11 were well educated.

Good insight on that Rocket.

Hi Tag: After 9/11 Bush was so eager to attack some other country or countries to show he was on top of things, but look at the mess that faulty thinking has caused. The 9/11 terrorists were dead, so did he think he could kill every other terrorist in the world? Our countries are practically bankrupt now, half our young men have been killed, and Iraq and Afghanistan are left in total chaos, a huge mess of bombed out buildings, and unbelievable loss of lives. There are more terrorists now than ever.

The foreign aid and huge amount of restitution money the U.S. pays out for all the damage from all these wars is staggering. I think if we left everyone else in the world alone to do whatever they want to do and believe whatever they want to believe in their own countries, then maybe there wouldn't be any 9/11.

Naming an abstract vaguely defined concept as one's enemy, is a weak plan due to the lack of specificity. Socio-political and diplomatic movements and policies can be based on ideologies, but wars need specific plans, against concrete specific NAMED enemies. Otherwise there is no clearly defined goal, and we will NEVER defeat an abstract concept.

Not saying war is either good or bad. But if we choose to wage a war, we have to get in it to win it. That requires a PLAN with a specific identifiable GOAL to defeat or DESTROY an identifiable enemy. Battling an abstraction just makes it more powerful and recruits more people to it. In those situations we can only lose.

GBU all,

Gavin

You make an excellent point, but who do we attack?

The Cold War ran it's course.

The US needs a replacement to feed the corporate machine.

Right Rentier1, otherwise they would go after the head of the snake, if it exists at all.

The way to fight terrorism is how European nations did it - police procedures.

Invading Iraq and Afghanistan to fight terrorism was sheer nonsense.

Saddam was no friend of radical Islam.

The Taliban weren't interested in terrorizing anyone but Afhgans.

Those two invasions were pretty good propaganda material for Al Qaeda.

In the event we DO go to war, and/or if you are inquiring regarding our current military activities in the world, I'd suggest we name people and organizations who attack us, and any nations that join, aid, or assist them militarily, materially or financially. And we should be ready to add (or subtract if need be) any others that join with them in those fashions.

Eg: We were right to declare war on Al Qaida. And because Afghanistan was complicit in protecting them, we were right in naming the Afghan government and the Taliban. I agree with Rent that going to war in Iraq was not necessary. We should declare war on the organization (name eludes me at the moment) that attacked our diplomatic posts in Benghazi.

Hope that clarifies how I feel we should handle wars.

GBU,

Gavin

Thanks for your comment. I am still of the mind that some power in the Middle East controlled the 9/11 operation and I think it was Saudi Arabia. Afghanistan was a proxy nation. Thanks again.
