Down Memory Lane:

We have had a tough winter, it's been so cold that Helga hasn't put the potted dwarf Alberta Spruce tree out on the patio. We bought the little tree for Christmas, we got tired of putting up the fake tree so we thought we would buy this little immigrant from Alberta. I wasn't sure about bringing something into the house that would probably vote for Stephan Harper if it could. I do note that it seems to perk up if we have the Sun News channel on by mistake (Fox News North) Anyway Helga is very soft hearted so it sits in the corner waiting for milder weather regardless of its political stripe.
On these long winter nights Helga and I spend a lot of time travelling down memory lane. She is a big Dean Martin fan and accesses You Tube to carry on with Deano and the Rat Pack. Remember them?
I go on my computer and tune in old videos of Johnny Cash and Roy Acuff. Remember the Wabash Cannonball?
It's hard to believe that it has been half a century since the Beatles first toured North America. I have some fond memories of those days.
Yeah those were the times, Foster Hewitt with Hockey Night in Canada, Wayne and Shuster, Fibber McGee and Molly.
Is it me or has comedy changed, some of the stuff that passes for humorous now is far too involved and complicated.
Oh we had our tough times, people like Helga survived the Battle of Berlin, I worked in the mining industry,it was hard dangerous work.I think of some my friends that got killed.
Now as the snow of winter blows outside I wonder how many more springs I will see.
We have made a lot progress though, we have universal health care, old age security, You Tube and our beloved computers. we have each other and that's what is important.
Times they are a changing, I sit here with my grey beard and wonder how it will all turn out.

Hi Tag: Interesting blog. I can't relate to any of the comedians today as every second word is swearing. I don't care for today's music or movies either, as both have too much sex and violence for me. The t.v. shows are not my taste either as they're either silly sitcoms, staged reality shows, or gory dead bodies being investigated by coroners and cops. How many dead bodies are there anyway?

It's freezing cold here in Niagara Falls, and you're so right about this being a tough Winter. I put on some beautiful opera music and close my eyes and I'm in sunny Italy.

I still miss Earl Cameron.

And today's music is just crazy.

They don't write lyrics like they used to.

Gonna turn out we will be happier and happier we are getting old and won't live to see the even harder times our young people are going to face.

    Quoting  :

That's true.

Rex Morgan and Mary Worth were much funnier than Doonesbury or Garfield.

Ahhhh...the good old days were not always that good!!

What passes for comedy these days is about grade three level bathroom humour, and full of obvious sexual content. I often wonder who watches this stuff. Lots of people must, since they're on season after season.

Programs where viewers actually have to follow the plot and think (horrors), often don't even last one season.

....and don't get me started on those hokey 'reality shows'!!!

I'm so glad that you and Helga have each other to reminisce with!
