MAISIE IS VERY ILL

For those of you who are praying people, I hope you will send a prayer Maisie's way. She suffered a stroke around 7:00 pm yesterday as we were heading out to dinner at the bottom of our front steps. First she felt lightheaded, then she seemed to have difficulty responding to my questions, then she became nauseous. I pulled out my phone and dialed 911. EMTs arrived in about 10 minutes and took her off to Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

I was told later by an attending doctor that she had suffered an "intercranial hemorrhage," and that her condition was critical. Surgery is being discussed. I will OK whatever the doctors recommend … I just want her back.

Needless to say, I have been distraught. Maisie and I are almost at our 5th anniversary, and we have grown closer over those 5 years. I hope we have a few more.

lisz, I am very sorry. I will pray for you and Maisie.

in cases of stroke time is the key factor. sounds like she was in hospital with in the golden hrs of the stroke.

from what I read first 3 hrs are critical.

stroke treatment is much better than when m mom had hers in 1970.

please keep us updated.

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND HER

Praying. I have also asked for prayers from the SFF prayer group in face book, and already people from all over are joining in.

Your support is the very best gift you can bestow upon her. You're wise to have faith in the medical profession, the advances we've made gives me confidence she will recover.

I'm sorry to hear of Maisie's stroke Liszt. My thoughts are with you both. Small comfort perhaps but it was fortunate you were with Maisie when it happened as your prompt actions worked much to Maisie's advantage for a favourable outcome/recovery. Hang in there Liszt, know you have the support of many :- )

You want advice. Get on the net and you will see several stroke centers in Tennessee. Vanderbilt being the best and most well known. Have her transferred as quickly as possible and they will start immediate rehab. My father had a stroke at the age of 57, and like Maise, he was strong and a fighter. His short time memory was slightly impaired and he was a well known musician and his fingering on a guitar needed to be remembered, but it did come back. Read to her at the bedside, talk to her about past events. You can do this my friend!

Dear Ones......I suffered a massive stroke 6 years ago, which basically destroyed 25 percent of my brain. It was a long road to recovery but Maisie can do it. I think the most important thing in recovering from a stroke is the fight you have within you. As I lay in my hospital bed, not being able to communicate at all, I overheard a doctor tell my daughter "just put her in a home and visit her now and then." LOL. This was not an option. The trick is to get into rehab quickly, and permanently. I had to learn to chew, swallow, speak....basically everything. I was a child trapped in adult body. But the most important thing is Maisie's will. Encourage her every second of every day, whether or not you think she hears you. The road is long and very difficult, Liszt, but you can both do it together. I am here if you need me...really I am. All you have to do is ask. God Bless you both.

There are 2 types of CVA's. Thrombotic (blood clot), and hemorrhagic (blood vessel rupture). The 'bleed' type is so very much more serious. The only 100% treatment is to do a craniotomy, find the ruptured vessel, and tie it off. I hope that she is in the VERY BEST Neuro-Hospital...where treatment is much more refined and aggressive. What an awful thing to happen to her. I pray that all goes well, and she can beat this thing. Sending my best wishes.

A word or two of advice, Liszt. Whatever the doctors say about Maisie, know this. I had a massive intracranial stroke 6 years ago, and if I had paid attention to the doctors, I would now be languishing in a nursing home with no life whatsoever. I chose to fight back. It's very important that Maisie is stimulated in every way, but especially through communication. Get her into therapy...both PT and OT. And do it for as long as it takes. I am still going to therapy after 6 years and still improving. NEVER STOP. NEVER GIVE UP, My prayers are with you both.
