"GENEVA-SWITZERLAND AND ITS MARVELS"

Situated along the banks of Lake Geneva, at the foot of the Alps, Geneva sparkles as one of Europe's most beautiful cities. It has a long history of diversity and tolerance. Geneva is a global city, a financial center, and worldwide center for diplomacy due to the presence of numerous international organizations, including the headquarters of many of the agencies of the United Nations and the Red Cross. Geneva is the city that hosts the highest number of international organizations in the world. It is also the place where the Geneva Conventions were signed, which chiefly concern the treatment of wartime non-combatants and prisoners of war. Geneva has the third-highest quality of life of any city in the world (behind Vienna and Zurich for expatriates; Geneva is one of the most diverse and international cities in the world with 184 nationalities living there. There are currently 12 languages available (mainly English, French, Spanish, German, Swiss-German, and Italian). Other languages include Russian, Portuguese, Dutch and Arabic.

Geneva is the European headquarters of the United Nations, in the Palace of Nations building ~(French: Palais Des Nations), the League of Nations.

The majority of the population are Roman catholic, which its HQ Is in Lausanne and Fribourg; then Protestants; Swiss reform church, Orthodox church; and about 4,8% were Muslims, 1.6% Jewish, very few Buddish and Hindu, agnostics or atheists and few from other church. Respect are given to each religion and tradition. The city has been referred to, as the world's most compact metropolis and the "Peace Capital".

Geneva's most famous monument, Jet d'Eau/The water fountain, is the world's tallest water fountain and provides a constant landmark for exploring the city. People can take a one or two hour boat cruise around the lake. Ride the gondola up Geneva’s backyard mountain and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding Alps and the city below. Of course if you’re feeling fit, you can hike up along one of the Saleve’s many marked trails. The bordering towns along the lake are: Lausanne, Vevye, Montreux, and many world-renowned ski resorts such as Verbier and Crans-Montana, The famous Mont Blanc is visible from most of the city, enclosed in the mountain Alp range surrounding nearby Chamonix, and the famous Zermatt (5200ft) known throughout the world for its skiing, with its Matterhorn, Zermatt is famed as a mountaineering and ski resort of the Swiss Alps. It has a tourist village with hotels restaurants and shopping. Cable cars and chair lifts carry skiers in winter and hikers in summer; there is also A spectacular rack railway line/cog railway train, the highest open-air railway in Europe, runs up to the summit of the Gornergrat at 3,089 m (10,134 ft).

What is so special about Geneva for the rest of the world?, The answer is that it has far greater international influence. Home to around twenty international organizations. The permanent missions of over 160 States represent their governments in the city's international conferences and organizations. Geneva is a center focused on the international economy. Whether private corporate or business, finance, in its widest sense, undeniably plays a major economic role in Geneva, which is a base for around a hundred foreign banks.

Without forgetting Switzerland is very famous for its chocolate, with its Worldwide most well known brand of chocolate as well as the famous Swiss-made Watches!!.
Geneva, known both as the «SMALLEST OF THE BIG CITIES» and the «CITY OF PEACE».

LakeWalker hi,

It's always a pleasure reading from you on my blog, thanks for your visit and for your nice comments.Thanks also for appreciating my blog which I guess has given you the incentive for a future trip visiting these wonderful places. You are quite right LakeWalker, it's really an enjoyable trip within the country. My favorite is Gornergrat, I like to spend some days in Zermatt at the Matterhorn, it's so wonderful!!. I was really worried yesterday after my blog got lost and couldn't respond to any of my readers. So, I had to post again this blog today. But it makes me so pleased seeing you back again, thank you my dear Lady for your visit and for your nice comments, which are so appreciable. I wish I had not skipped Switzerland while touring almost all the beautiful cities of Europe in the year 1976. Thanks Lisa for sharing information about this great city and its marvels with us. May be next time while in Europe, I shall be able to visit this city with my beloved.
