What does the Mural tell us?
The photo shows a mural (Photo #1) on the outer clay wall of a home in a Santhal village in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. Robyn, thank you so much for stopping by and for the post. The Santhal (Santal) people are an ethnic group living in Bangladesh, Eastern India and Nepal. They have a rich oral tradition of songs, dances and stories. Some Changes have occurred in their lifestyle that can be considered positive by us. They used to follow the Sama religion. Now the majority of them are influenced by the Hindu religion. Some have converted to Christianity and Islam. They no longer face displacement, land alienation and exploitation by powerful outsiders. They now send their children to modern schools and colleges for higher education. They have adopted modern health care and other facilities like others.
