Dhaka Metro - mass rapid transit... We are now in the era of an elevated metro rail transporting network in the city where I live. On December 28, 2022, our country entered a new era when our Prime Minister inaugurated the country's first-ever elevated metro rail system in Dhaka. Our metro rail trains are expected to carry 60,000 passengers every hour when fully operational. The system has special facilities for elders, women, and the disabled. Dhaka is the fourth most crowded mega-city in South Asia after Delhi, Kolkata, and Lahore, where such a clean metro rail system is available to commuters now. Mariam Afiza, the first woman metro train operator, said on the inauguration day, " We are very excited. I feel proud and honored to have Prime Minister on board as the country witnessed its first-ever metro ride." A considerable part of the city of Dhaka is expected to be free from traffic jams soon enough. |

What an awesome subject "trains". Trains are the greatest mode of transportation. When I lived in Edmonton, Alberta back in the 60's I used to take the Dayliner that ran between Edmonton and Calgary and stopped at most towns between those two cities. My parents lived in a small town about a hour and a half from Edmonton and I always enjoyed that ride. Many years later that train stopped running. I enjoyed looking at all your photos that you posted. When I travelled in Europe so many years ago I used the Eurail pass to go from one country to the next. Great post LookLook.

While living in Germany, I traveled throughout the country by inter-city trains. It was far cheaper than other transport. Have a peaceful 2023.

I feel delighted reading your post. A part of our rapid transit system will run underground too. It is scheduled to become fully operative by the year 2026. Our city is now overpopulated. We needed the system long before. I hope you are keeping well. Have a pleasant 2023.

HOW GREAT YOU NOW HAVE A RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM. WE NOW HAVE A "TRAM-BUS" THAT LINKS US WITH SOPHIA-ANTIPOLIS ON DEDICATED ROAD LANES. EFFORTS ARE BEING MADE TO GET SOME CARS OFF THE ROADS AND CLEAN UP THE AIR BUT NOW IT'S SORT OF "WAIT AND SEE". HAVE YOU TRIED THE NEW SYSTEM YET?
