Our Winter Visitors.

Winter, the most pleasant season in my country has since arrived officially. It will continue till mid-February next. It is slowly tightening its grip on the entire country. During this period; average temperatures would vary between 11–20ºC (52–68ºF). In the extreme north of Bangladesh, temperatures may come down even to four/five degrees centigrade. Night and morning fog is already engulfing some parts of our country. However, it is yet to hamper plying of river boats or landings and take off Airplanes.

This is the season when migratory birds, our regular winter visitors, start flying back to seasonal habitats in different parts of our country. Some of these birds take monumental trips over the Himalayas, flying thousands of miles from countries like China and Russia to different wetlands in my country every year.

Appended a number of photos of such birds in flight may please be seen. A flock of painted storks can be seen on a wetland located in the northern part of Bangladesh. These birds look colorful, have enormous bills, and long legs, and of various shades usually arrive early every year. Photo #5 depicts two flying Sea Gulls looking for food on shores during winter time. They are not migratory birds.

None of these photos were taken by me. I have posted below the names of the photographers who have shot these photos.

Yes, Rock, No doubt about it. These fearless migratory birds fly in the night. Stop in the day to take a rest. The places where they stop to take a rest are called “stopover sites”.
Take care. Be safe.

I enjoyed reading about the migration of the birds and the great pictures of them in flight. Great blog!

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Darter, you know that birds are also animals. They migrate like other animals in order to breed, grow, find food or avoid excessive cold weather. In your region, I know some birds migrate twice a year, in the spring and again in the fall. I hope that I am not wrong.
Have a pleasant winter and stay well.

Thank you so much for your post left on my blog page. True, the magpies do not migrate anywhere at any time. Perhaps they don't like to fly far away from their nests.
I have read somewhere that Snowy Owls migrate to your region in winter from the Arctic region. Take Care of yourself, dear Sandy. Stay cheerful.

[I]Birds are God's cutest creation, Maudie. They bring joy to our life. They are intelligent too. Perhaps, they inspired us to learn how to fly and enjoy the beauty of the planet where we live far from above. Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe and happy.

These are beautiful photos of birds that are migrating. A lot of birds stay around here for the winter. I have seen robins stay here for the winter. Also the hummingbirds tend to stick around. I see some kinds of ducks that come here for the winter and then come spring they migrate further north. Of course we never get rid of seagulls and Canada geese. They stick around during the whole year. Then there are the notorious crows who love to make a nuisance of themselves.

You have rightly said everything about the birds seen in your country, Shartaun. Birds like Robins, Hummingbirds, Seagulls, and Canada Geese are not migratory birds. These species have accustomed themselves to local weather systems long before. The crows are natives of the region where they are found. Ducks are one of the real migratory species. Our winter visitors are mainly various species of Ducks. Stay happy during this winter, dear shartaun.

I WONDER IF ANY OF OUR STORKS WINTER IN BANGLADESH. THEY GENERALLY LEAVE ALSACE AROUND OCTOBER BUT THIS YEAR WAITED FAR LONGER TO LEAVE OWING TO OUR WARM WEATHER. ALSO, HOW I WISH THE SEAGULLS WOULD MIGRATE.SEVERAL ARE SPENDING THE WINTER ON THE ROOF OF A BUILDING ACROSS THE STREET AND CAN BE VERY AGRESSIVE AND THEY MAKE A LOT OF NOISE.

No, none of your storks would like to winter in my country! Because migratory birds do not like to change their flight path. They avoid breaking the flock formation while in flight. I am sure, European Storks are no different. Most of our visiting winter birds start flying in the months of October and November from Siberia and China toward their seasonal habitats in Bangladesh.
Seagulls prefer to live near sea shores or river banks. All of the gull species are not migratory types. So, they will continue to winter on the roof of the building across the street irrespective of what you wish or do not wish.
Wishing you Happy holidays and a Joyous New Year. Be safe, dear Archer.
