Off the beaten Track, the wetland paradise!

Haors!

One must not be surprised to see someone relaxing on a hammock hanging between two semi-submerged trees in an off- the beaten track, the wetland paradise of my beloved homeland (Pic #1).
This is not, however, a regular feature here. But these wetland ecosystems are unique, teeming with life and mesmerizing natural beauties!

These wetlands are called “Haors” in this part of our world. At a certain period of the year, these haors also provide us spots to relax.

The Haors turn into vast seas during Monsoon season! This is the time to move around here in boats and enjoy the beauties that mother nature offers to us.
The amazing sight of the full moon from the boats at night would keep the tourists spellbound and speechless. The human habitats inside the haors look like islands floating on water!

Haors are bowl-shaped large natural (tectonic) depressions They are wetland ecosystems located in the northeastern part of Bangladesh. A Haor is also known as a back swamp. It receives surface runoff water by canals, rivers, and rain waters during Monsoon. It dries up in winter turning most parts into a vast Greenland!

Do you want to learn more about this ecosystem? Just enter into the Net Kingdom and watch what happens next!

Cheers, my friends~~~~

VERY INTERESTING, LOOK. I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO LIVE ON A HOUSEBOAT ON A LAKE OR RIVER. ARE THERE SNAKES IN THE WATER?

Lovely pictures of a part of the world I have never and will never see.
I smiled at the first picture..... wondered how did he get there? Is the water so shallow that he waded?

Archer, Thanks for stopping by. Tourists who go there usually avail of boat rides and stay in the boats overnight to enjoy the amazing sights of the full moon. Yes, there are water snakes but mostly harmless. The boatmen would not anchor their boat in a snake-infested area.

Mrs.Joe,
Thanks for your post. There are many amazing places on our planet where we can't go for various reasons. But you two will always be welcome here. The person on the hammock is likely to be the tourist who availed of a boat ride to go there. Water is surely shallow there! The semi-submerged trees say so. But he did not wade to go there. Small paddled boats are also available there during the daytime. Be safe.

Maudie,
I also like the photo. The person on the hammock appears to be a man full of imagination. He has carried the hammock from his home to pass time with nature. I hope you are doing well. Be safe.

Sandy, we live in the largest Delta region of the world known as the Bengal Delta (or the Ganges Delta.). It is also known as the Sunderbans Delta. The delta plain, about 350-km wide along the Bay of Bengal, is formed by the confluence of the rivers the Ganges, the Brahmaputra, and Meghna. My country is also called the land of rivers. Yes, Sandy, Bangladesh is a beautiful country. Nature has provided us with enough resources to exploit for our survival. It has also taught us to survive fighting with natural calamities! You are welcome to Bangladesh anytime you prefer to visit. I trust that it could be before your next life. Stay well and cheerful always.

Rock, Thank you so much for your comment. I have seen the Haors when I was a kid living in the area with my parents for a year or two. My dad was a government officer. That period was a wonderful time of my life. Take care, my friend. Stay safe always.

Are you fearful of Monsoon rains, Koffla? We wait for the monsoon to come in time. Our agriculture depends on the Monsoon. Maybe, you have reasons to avoid the Monsoon. Stay well and Be safe.

What a challenge getting in and out of that hammock. I tried doing it on solid ground. It's not easy.

You are right, starwomyn. It is not easy to get in and out of a hammock hanging even on solid ground. But a water body is different. People use the roof of the boat to get in and out easily. Stay safe and cheerful.

Great pics, LookLook. If I can ever travel internationally again( which is most unlikely ) I'd love to see that place and the other attractions of your country. When I was a young back-packer, I actually piloted the locals ferry on the Backwaters between Allepy and Cochin, in India.
Happy Divali to you LookLook.
