I would venture to say they paid off well for the US & the Allies. The wars in the Middle East to me are no different then Viet Nam. OMG, that look and that young child in blood: it's just scary and especially scary when us here, in our comfortable chairs feel so hopeless...just unbearable!! I recall reading an interview of Mandela, one of his last ones...he said: take care of the children!! Obviously, some just really cannot do that at all....
