Im not hogging the blogs, Im just trying to leave less room for politics.

I have always been afraid of the Middle East countries since I was a very small . We used to hear the goings on out there on the "wireless" and it put the fear of God in me. That must be around just about 50 years ago, and they are still fighting, and bringing in Western countries, who should stay away because it will make no difference to the Middle East. Sadam is gone and Afghanistan and Iraq are still in a state of a type of war. What about the , they are entitled to a childhood. Only the women seem to be trying to protect them.
The people in the Middle East countries think differently to us, they dont seem to realize that war is not the only way to live, and that they could have a good life if even one country said "I surrender"
If America goes in, then Russia, France, Iran, and all the others, we can all wave bye bye to each other.
There is so much talking and no action.
Why can people not sit back, the various countries, and see what will happen. Everyone is on high alert at the moment so there is no need to not sit back and see what will happen next.
Im glad Im 72. I dont have long more to go. However, my and grandchildren dont understand chemical or nuclear warfare and are living their lives as young people should.
The world has changed dramatically, and not for the better.
I think men love war, there arent many women saying much, I wonder why? The Pope askked for prayers for peace, Im not sure if people pray any more. Our Churches are praying for peace every Sunday. Its all very sad, God gave us a wonderful world and we destroyed it.

The history of middle eastern conflict goes back even further, to pre biblical times and even to the first recorded histories. Foolish to think we can change things externally. Countries are the same as people. Change can only happen if it is really desired by the person themselves. External things are irrelevant.

Hi Robyn: Just looking at videos over the years of all the never ending fighting and wars going on in the Middle East, those of us born in North America are so lucky to be born here. I can't even imagine being a woman over there, no rights and afraid to go to the store or leave the house because you might get or shot, or wondering if your husband will get killed in some riot or war.

The cities in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq are all bombed out, so with no-one able to live a normal life or go to work, what money are these poor people left in the cities living on, and where are they getting their food from as I can't imagine any stores are open? With thousands of Syrian rebels out fighting every day for the past two years, where are they getting their food from???

We live in world that's losing it's integrity, honesty, honor, conscience and commitment. It's far more destructive to the human race than all the bombs, guns, and chemical weapons.
We say we believe in human rights, but our actions are only those that are in the name of self interest.
The atrocities, genocide and terrorism that is pervasive in the world are not condemned worldwide, nor are they acted against worldwide. It's is the idea that we can choose when to act, and who to act against because of self interest that condemns us all.

The bald eagle becomes the vulture
When it flies above the Middle East
Not human rights, but a different culture
To kill and upon it to feast

Gotta say I agree with you, we should stay out of this mess. And I'm glad I'm 72 because I am afraid of what lies ahead for the younger generations.

They are so used to violence and war that they dont seem to be able to exist without it. I just remember back to when I was 8 or 9, and it has been there since. As you say, even before that.

Its a bad situation knx, and it seems to be leading to where I always imagined it would. There is such division, and no compromise.

I understand grandbluff. I live in Ireland and can say what we like!!! within reason. However, whatever we say makes no difference. Our Government are a diisaster and a waste of space.

I agree ET, everyone seems to depend on the US and that cant last. However, I think this has gone beyond that, as there are other countries, more dangerous than the US involved. Its a terrible situation. No peace for the people of the middle east and no peace for us just looking on.

I dont know how they live bijou, or how they have the will to live. Most of them have lost many members of their families.
Im going up to bed now to watch the programme on The Children of 9/11 and that also was a terrible disaster.

This whole dynamic with Syria is changing so rapidly now that it is hard to comment or analyze where it goes. However, the offer to put Syria's chemical weapons under international control and to then destroy them is a deal we have to make happen. I'm not in the camp that believes the middle east will always be like this, but its difficult to envision rapid change. I can find plenty of blame to pass around in that area of the world and I don't exclude Israel. It was just a huge tragedy when Rabin was assassinated by a right wing Israeli radical. That happened after he won the Nobel Peace Prize. Unfortunately the settlement issue has just been a horrific disaster for the world. But the Israeli government simply will not stop them. The time is now for a bold initiative to transform the middle east. It will be complicated but the longer we wait isn't going to help matters. Getting the UN to get the Chemicals out of Syria paves the way for Assad to leave and a political settlement. The faster this happens the better. I just hope the U.S. congress doesn't make it impossible, and they just might.
I imagine all that will take time. Im almost afraid to watch the news in the mornings when I wake up, as anything can happen at this stage. I cant imagine Syria handing over their weapons. It will be like the IRA, it took them years (in Ireland) to hand over their weapons of mass destruction and surrender too a democratic society. There are still a few elements with guns and ammunitions but the majority of the fighting is almost over. We can just pray, if you believe in that. I do, and I pray for these poor people who are left with nothing.
