Syrian Refugees Still thinking about the Syrian refugee problem, and the controversy over letting them come to the USA. It occurs to me, that perhaps some of the dispute is caused by misunderstandings from both sides of the issue. I've said I'm opposed to allowing them here right now, but I'm wondering if I should have clarified my position, cos I bet a lot of others who agree with me would say my clarifications also fit with their opinions too, and moreover, I think those in favor of letting them in may be more open to our side too. I'm not saying I'd never let any of them in. Where I differ from those who want to open our doors to them, is in the timing and patience applied to our security. So what I mean, is that yes, they could come here, but before they'd be allowed to roam freely, they should be treated reasonably, but confined to certain areas. And only released from there after we can properly vett each one to minimize the risks to ourselves. Admittedly, this process is even further greatly compounded by the fact that it is currently impossible to properly vet most of them. That doesn't mean they can never be vetted. But it does mean that it will take even longer before we can be sure they are safe to allow in. I realize that may mean some wait years before we fully accept them, and even decades in many instances. Even tho most of them are probably not a risk to us anyway we have a lot to lose for each time we let someone in who we shouldn't have. I feel sorry for them, but that's life. We didn't create this situation in Syria. Assad and ISIS did. (Not gonna get into any debates about whether we created the environment leading up to the civil war in Syrian or the power vacuum in Iraq, because any blame beyond a recognition of what the refugees are fleeing from isn't productive to this discussion.) So I'm going to rephrase my position on this issue now. From this point on, I'm in favor of letting them in, but only VERY SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY. GBU all, Gavin |

Hi Dakota! I can't fault anyone for feeling the same way you do! I'm disinclined to believe it's possible for a State to refuse them, but I certainly hope efforts like this will slow the process down! GBU, Gavin

Thanks for commenting Maizie! Atho speaking for myself, you were responding to what is just another comment from Leaf that I didn't feel worthy of a response. He knows he's full of shit, so he's just trying to annoy honest folks. Even most other liberals don't give him much credence, cos he makes them look bad and weakens their credibility to be seen siding with him. Letting him rant has been more beneficial to the advancement of conservative thinking than any response we can give him. GBU, Gavin

Thanks for clarifying your position, which is your position. I would remind you that during Hitler's rise a whopping 67 percent of Americans opposed allowing Jewish refugees to enter the country. It takes up to 2 years to bring refugees to the U.S. It took until 2008 for GW Bush to bring 106,000 Iraqi's here, in spite of the Shia/Sunni hate that has persisted for 3000 years. I wouldn't consider 2 years insufficiently slow. I doubt ISIS will be much of a threat in 2 years. I think everybody knows a safe zone is what needs to happen first, something they already started working on when Turkey joined the fight. The real problem here has been the reaction by 30 republican governors. They never thought this thing through, and now they look so stupid. I wonder when this party will grow out of the ignorance that makes them so incredibly inept at governing. Anyway, I give you credit for wanting to clarify how you feel. It is my view, that lacking compassion for people who are running for their lives from people who are cutting off heads and burning people alive speaks volumes. I might add that Christian churches all over America are appalled by the republican reaction. Your party has lost its way Gavin, and respect from the American people. You take care my friend. I refuse to explain it...it is that stupid.

Comparing muslims refugees to jewish refugees in this instance...is about as stupid a comment as you have ever made. I refuse to explain it...it is that stupid. While I agree the comparison between Muslim refugees and Jewish refugees is stupid, this is NOT anywhere near the most stupid comment Leaf has ever made. But thanks for commenting and GBU, Gavin
