Things are getting bad when....

A lifelong Christian recognizes that religion does in fact seek to diminish women and their right to self determination.

I have observed that the majority of so called "pro-life" individuals are those that are firmly ensconced in a religion. This is the group of fundamentalists that are very akin to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Just as the Taliban, we observe that the radical conservatives in America seek to remove any gains that women have achieved. They seek to maintain a double standard of earnings in the workplace. They seek to have a double standard insofar as employment benefits are concerned.

Just as the Taliban destroyed schools that Americans had built the radical conservatives in this country seek to close off access to education. The latest effort in this regard came about when they refused to take steps to address the increase in student loan interest.

Not all Christians are of this radical orientation. In fact some of my best friends have been moderate conservatives. Unfortunately moderates have found that they can no longer accept the radicalism inherent in the present day Tea Party/Republican ranks and many of them have left the party of Lincoln. As one of my best friends recently noted "Lincoln would have been tarred, feathered and rode out of town on a rail by the bunch that have hijacked the party."

Maybe we need background checks before letting anyone possess a religious belief? LOL!

Hi Bobbi: Carter is so right about religion. They either portray women as virtuous and docile and loved by all, or unvirtuous and shunned by society, none ever accomplishing anything other than breeding. It's scary how far backwards the Repubs want to take society.
