It's unraveling fast and I've been worried this would happen for some time. Several months ago in a conversation with Cricket I felt compelled to write a column that it was my belief that it would be a foreign policy event that would push the nation over the edge. It was my calculation at the time that with Democratic control of the House, and the pressure of the election campaign that ugly as it already was, America might be able to weather domestic chaos. It was still iffy given the dangerous path we are on economically with respect to the trade wars, market volatility and rare Federal Reserve actions. I don't think my own conclusions were that far out of the mainstream. There has been a lot of international chaos already in this presidency. But that kind of chaos is complicated and a foolish president can create enormous problems almost overnight. How could one possibly have confidence that Trump could manage it. Look where we are now. It wasn't hard to predict, but now we are discovering that we were indeed already on the edge as a country. We are in serious trouble now. The ugliness of fascism presents a daily dose of trouble. Yesterday, the president of the United States called the American people "scum". Those are the words of a traitor.
