I just saw two adjacent news articles that seemed to me to illustrate how ludicrous these abortion bills are. On the one hand is the Alabama bill that outlaws abortion even in the case of incest and ra*pe and the other is the sentencing of a single mother of 5 to 25 years in prison for child neglect.........Looks like the American public will be paying for the incarceration of doctors who perform abortions, women who can't manage to take care of children they are forced to birth and will also be paying for the foster-care of all those hundreds of thousands of extra children, who, as statistics show, are going to spend time behind bars. The irony is that the people who want to eliminate abortion are the same people who don't want universal health care, who don't care that American babies and their birthing mothers have the highest death rate in the developed world........... Their priorities are insane when taken in context.......

The other Southern states also have increasingly restrictive laws governing abortion clinics, forcing women to wait 24 hours between sessions . For instance, they are legally required to have a counselling session and wait at least 24 hours before having the abortion, or required to have a scan and wait a day or more.....This creates financial and/or time restrictions on many women, who would have to miss work, pay for overnight child-care, pay for a hotel, gas as well as the abortion.......she may not have the use of a car to drive hundreds of miles to the next clinic........The number of clinics, especially in the South have been drastically reduced in the last few years, so a large state has gone from 20 clinics to one or two, making the distances unmanageable.

Personally I don't think Alabama went far enough. Every sperm and ovum is a potential human being and deserves the same protection as a fetus. So Alabama should immediately make masturbation, wet dreams, and menstruation criminal offences.
