Understanding

Since his inauguration, President Trump has lied to the American People over 9,000 times. Those who continue to support him either don't understand the implications of such prevarication or don't care. Either way the only entity which suffers is the nation.

This liar has his supporters believing the Democrats are responsible for the shut down of the government when he admitted himself, on tape, he would take full responsibility for the shut down. Now that is seems to be a bit of a burden, he tries to shift the blame.

The sole positive portion of the Trump Administration has been the economy. This quarter the increase will be at or near zero. So much for all the good this president has been doing, or at least what his loyal followers believe he's doing. It has been estimated it will take to recover from this administration's malfeasance and misfeasance, nonetheless his loyal followers cling to him like the last straw.

Recently, we've seen blogs and FB posts trying desperately to convince the 70% of President Trump's prowess and accomplishments, not the least of which is the now infamous wall. Folks, it ain't gonna happen. We finally have a House of Representatives which refuses to cow tow to the demands of the Executive Branch and our erstwhile president is completely baffled as to his course of action. This has not dissuaded the great unwashed from their undying loyalty, however, I suspect, there is nothing which will. Logic and expertise will never overcome fear and hatred, two characteristics to which the right wingers are addicted.

I suggest those of us who actually think about these things begin a program of disregarding the nonsense spewed by the right wingers or, at least, try to find some logic in their position so as to save them from looking like fools. It's an arduous and daunting task but I think the nation is worth the effort.

Prejudice cannot be conquered with logic, logic didn't instill it and logic cannot eradicate it.

" It's an arduous and daunting task but I think the nation is worth the effort." ABSOLUTELY!

Last night I fell asleep with the TV tuned to PBS and awoke in the wee hour of the morning to a Nightline episode of The Dictator's Playbookl featuring the rise and fall of Benito Mussolini. It was a spine-chilling experience to see the parallels that can be drawn between ………… I don't even dare share my thoughts without being called a radical, left wing, nut case. Interestingly enough, Mussolini instilled that exact fear in the hearts of 'his' people.

You may already be aware of this series, Skariff. I wasn't. I understand it's a four-part series. I think they're timely. Nightline is a great broadcast, a favorite of mine … always well researched and beautifully narrated.

From my experience, people who are 'book smart' have zero common sense. That might explain the problem with a few here, but not all by any means. After all, Trump let it be known how much he loves the "poorly educated," and they love him right back because they're so naïve, they believe he means it. It's astonishing that the loyalists will just go with the flow, and do as their leader says..."Don't believe what you're reading or seeing." "Just remember, what you are seeing and what you are reading is not what's happening." It's on tape, staring them in the face, and they still deny everything. Unbelievable! I guess that's what party before country looks like.

It is an incredibly arduous and daunting task as Earthy said. The deplorable, to include the 'poorly educated', nearly a lost cause at this juncture. I have yet to discover any way of reaching these people. Intellect fails, pointing out hypocrisy fails, demonstrating the harm they are doing to themselves through their willing ignorance and stupidity fails too. But the truth is that there remain a few who are bailing out of nightmare as it deepens. Once Trump is gone it will be time to forgive many of them and help ease them back into civilized and productive society. But this is where I really agree with Earthy...the nation is worth the effort.

Carolina zeros in on a very important Trump quote..."Just remember, what you are seeing and what you are reading is not what's happening." That is the most dangerous utterance by an American president in our history.

Thanks, Leaf, but you are attributing Skariff's words to me. LOL I'm not deserving. I'm just agreeing.

I have indeed. I was so focused on your 'ABSOLUTELY' I confused myself. I apologize to you both! The whole matter is so incredibly frustrating. I call congress and write to them often. I don't limit this to just my own representatives. It's so frustrating when I watch senate sessions and listen to people thinking...did they not hear what I just said? LOL
