A walk in the (not) black forest

The Winter sun is beautiful after an overnight frost has cleared the air.

The woodland starts within 200m of our front door.

The squirrels will almost eat out of your hand, unless they are in a bad mood. Then they throw acorns at you.

A forest can be so beautiful and interesting during any season. I'm not close to one, but there is the timbers along the creek south of us that I can see distantly from the kitchen window. I enjoy that in all seasons.

Beautiful pictures Bondjam....Winter can be beautiful and especially on a bright sunny day. The one nice thing about where I live is we always have green grass. The ground never freezes here so at least we have that nice bit of green.

First spawned by the rich and necessary tradition of hunting for game in order to properly eat, my introduction to the forests of New England arrived in my mid teens.

Soon however over many unrehearsed encounters and experiences, I began a process of growing awareness per Mother Natures many outdoor and remoteresources to both consume and digest.

Yes the vast plant and vegetation networks all interacting with each other in so many different ways. Growth and developement to begin with creating a solid foundation of root networks where trees produced shade, consumed rainfall and flooding and provided needed shelter for Gods different creatures to live, dwell and survive in.

Life in both plant and animal forms embraced this habitant thus creating eons of timeless history passed on in age old traditions.

Thank you for some wonderful photos that truly capture the true meaning and purpose for this most welcomed segment of our world.

Your represented well worn FOOT PATH truly captures all the joys of repeated year round travel to interact.

How lucky the both of you are to bear previe and witness to such beauty. Hardwoods right next to softwoods along with plant and vines that seed each year to lay down the foundation for untold generations to follow.

Hopefully in a future blog, perhaps captured photos of the wild life that adapt to humans and co-exists.

My front yard maple hosts a pair of squirrels that also come within a few scant feet of being totally hand fed!

Beautiful bright sunny pictures. There is something very special about walking in a forest connecting with nature.

I can almost feel the crispness in the air and the crisp crunchiness of frost underfoot (last picture) - how exhilarating

You mentioned you're from Yorkshire - in my early to late twenties, I spent some time in England. Having read James Wright's (pseudonym James Herriot) books of life on the Yorkshire Dales as a veterinary surgeon (and later, the BBC's charming spinoff 'All Creatures Great & Small' ), visiting the region was a must during my UK stay. It wouldn't have been complete without a visit to the Yorkshire Moors having been inspired by Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' and brooding Heathcliff, lol (I also loved Kate Bush's haunting 'Wuthering Heights' ). I was quite surprised to see so much gorse dominating the moors - was hoping to see a mass of purple heather.
