It may be Winter outside but in my heart it's Spring Winter has finally arrived in Yorkshire so I thought it might be time to dust off some old pictures from the many gardens we have visited in our travels over the last year or so. Some are from Canada and others from the UK including a couple from my own garden but finishing up with an iconc view of Butchart gardens on Vancouver Island. The elk is there just because he looks magnificent lol. |

Lovely photos Bond. The seventh photo is my favourite, so beautiful and tranquil looking. Love the elk too.

Per your Elk photo" Elk are thought to have been hunted to extinction in the UK, but four years ago a pair were reintroduced into Scotland from Scandinavia as part of a breeding plan. Elk are one of several species being re-introduced in Scotland, and the baby elk's arrival is a positive sign that the breeding plan's working! The knowledge gained by the perfection of Zoo management programs all over the world have produced the once lacking abilities to successfully introduce endangered species back into the wild with a fair degree and element of success. With no real natural enemies like the North American Wolf or Grizzly bear, only lack of proper food resources and poaching by ignorant mankind can bring failure to this magnificent animal species. FYI As one of the largest mammals in North America, elk are noticeably larger than deer. Female elk, called cows, weigh around 500 pounds; males can weigh over 700 pounds.

When it is cold outside, it's nice to remember the beauty of spring lying ahead. All pictures together make one magnificent park to enjoy walking around. I would sit on the bench (photo #6) to rest and breathe in the scents of the flowers. Isn't there a coffee place nearby? Early this morning there was a thin layer of snow and patches of ice here and there. Around noon that visible sign of winter was gone, but still the temperature was zero. I love the splashes of colour and serenity, especially the vibrant lilies and the purple/blue flowers in 8th photo (not sure what they are - googled and closest I came to was aubretia or rock cress) - beautiful. The pond with bridge in background sets a tranquil scene. The elk looks a handsome beast although I would prefer to keep a safe distance having once had an antlered deer approach me menacingly when I naively reached out to pat it. I was thinking of Bambi in adult form, lol.

I forgot to mention I now have three healthy borage plants (currently flowering in beautiful cobalt blue - the flowers are almost indistinguishable from neighouring potato plants with their lavender petals and golden anthers. I haven't as yet used them as a herb although I did come across a recipe for borage lemonade, using the borage flowers as garnish. Such a beautiful shape and shade of blue. Thanks for your introduction to borage (blog some time in 2020).
