Sunday Dinner and Niklaustag

Traditional English Sunday dinner all my own work; one with Yorkshire puddings and one without for Mrs J (she is a Philistine from Devon and does not like Yorkshire's) but today is Niklaustag (Santa's birthday) and the second Sunday in Advent so we have lit the Advent pyramid and will be having lebkuchen for tea later.

The vegetables were all grown in our garden, the stuffing and Yorkshire's home made.

Thanks for the post and the reminder that this is a time where we remember.... Your dinner looks tasty. I would enjoy with you (if invited) without the Yorkshire pudding like Mrs J. LOL
Did you have problems attaching pictures? They only allowed 3 photos on my post!

I was a restaurant cook for many years and my specialty was a full English roast beef dinner....This was in a hotel and the dining room was always filled on roast beef day......There was a lot of pressure to garuantee those Yorkshire Puddings.....I baked them all before-hand and gave them a final toast before serving.

Later on I made them for my family....my husband, who the children called Papa was English and loved them....We called them Papa-overs......One with gravy and one with homemade Raspberry jam.....

So few people know that Yorkshire puddings can be eaten with savoury or sweet dishes.
They are beautiful with onion gravy or casserole sausages but equally with raspberries and cream , jam or lemon juice and sugar.

Dinner looks delicious and how much more enjoyable knowing the veg came straight from the garden to the kitchen table. I enjoy Yorkshire pudding although I haven't eaten/made any since living in the UK ages ago - they were surprisingly easy to make. Pardon my ignorance but is that chicken or turkey on the plate? I feel like a roast dinner now, lol.

bondjam33 replies on 12/8/2020 12:18 pm:
It was a chicken -- there are only two of us at home now so a small chicken is plenty. We make sure we have a roast every Sunday however.

I love Yorkshire puddings. I never make them but have had them elsewhere. I am not English but a connoisseur of many ethnic foods.

See my response to Sparkle -- there are many ways to eat Yorkshire puddings.

%MY MOTHER MADE LEBKUCHEN FOR CHRISTMAS BUT I BUY IT READY MADE NOW. WE HAVE VERY NICE ALSACIAN BISCUITS THIS TIME OF YEAR.

We have spekulatius biscuits and cinnamon rolls along with the Lebkuchen but we are addicted to cinnamon and ginger.

Yum, it looks delicious! You had a nice haul from your garden this year. What all did you grow? I knew you grew flowers...I didn't know about the veggies. I would happily eat your Yorkshire pudding...it looks yummy. Veggies and stuffing too...what a feast!

bondjam33 replies on 12/8/2020 12:28 pm:
It was as delicious as it looked, but it only took 10 minutes to demolish the lot lol.
Mrs J has half the garden for growing vegetables (she raises them in the greenhouse and I plant them out in four beds for rotation).
We grow a lot of fruit and veg; potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, peppers (bell and chilli) aubergines, broccoli, caulifowers, leeks, carrots, mangetout and sugar snap peas, cabbage, lettuce, beans (french, dwarf, runners and broad beans), onions, spring onions, garlic, blackcurrants, apples, plums, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, crab apples for jelly and a variety of herbs in the herb garden.

Thanks Koffla and the same to you.
I thought you had abandonned logs as your wit and humour (not to mention photographic expertise) had been missing for quite a while.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

I took a break for a few months. There is so much I can take of the blogs. Need to unwind away from the madness once in a while.
