More flowers to greet the month of August The first day of August is Yorkshire day and the sun was out so the flowers were there to greet the new month. 1. Livingstone daisy - always bright and cheerful 2. This 'black' petunia is the closest we have ever grown to a really black flower. 3. The new clematis is enjoying the sun 4. The newest of the hanging baskets has filled out nicely 5. Lobelia cardinalis, a very striking red against the sea lavender. 6. Love lies bleeding (amaranthus) with long, pendulous flowers for contrast. 7. This hanging basket decorates the garage door 8. Pastel red nasturtium 9. Aptly named poached egg plant 10. The first Gladiolus of the season - interesting flower. |

Beautiful flowers - oh, happy day . I'll have to look for black petunia at the local nursery - I just love it, it looks so edible. I'm not long back from town and picked up a punnet of mixed African daisies; Livingstone daisies were also in stock - I might get a punnet next time I'm in town - yours is a fine example, clean lines. The gladiolus is interesting - I've never seen that variety. Just checked online - is it the Parrot gladiolus (native to South Africa)?[/SIZE]

NEVER SEEN BLACK PETUNIAS BEFORE. PETUNIAS DO FAIRLY WELL ON MY BALCONY UNTIL ABOUT MID JULY AND THEN THOSE LITTLE GREEN BUGS GET TO THEM. WHEN I SET UP MY FLOWER BOXES I THINK I WILL PUT IN MINI CACTI, THAT SHOULD AT LEAST KEEP THE PIGEONS AWAY.
