Oh the weather outside is frightful

Dreary, wet, windy and thoroughly miserable weather in the UK so I figured a few peaceful, calming views from the Sun Yat Sen Chinese gardens in Vancouver were in order.

A real hidden gem of peace, order and tranquility in a pretty run down part of town but well worth a visit.

Also posted a few final views from Stanley Park taken just before we left for the airport.

Beautiful. I am anticipating the arrival of my daughter from Hong Kong on the 21st,, yippee! She's been sending me such beautiful pictures too, but rather see her smiling face.

Absolutely beautiful. There is so much beauty in our world, but you would never know it if you listen to the "news" or read most of the blogs.
Thanks for sharing these images of peacefulness.

Vancouver has a large and vibrant population of Chinese heritage. When we immigrated to Canada in the late 50's, we lived in Vancouver's Chinatown for the first few months......My father was very intrigued with the culture. The modern trend of garden-to-table restaurants was the normal there. We thought we were in heaven eating the beautifully cooked and flavoured, perfectly ripened produce.

My uncle was a chef on an ocean liner that was in dry-dock in Vancouver and he took us to explore not only the Chinese foods, the market-gardens on the Fraser River, the garden you have pictured here, the Chinese New Years parade with a huge, elaborate red and gold dragon that breathed fire and was borne by dozens of people.....

When I looked at these photos I thought I smelled a whiff of Jasmine. When we first came there, my mother discovered the Chinese herbalist......She found, among other wonderful things, pure Jasmine oil, which she mixed with bees-wax,lanolin and coconut oil and used it on her skin......Years later, when I wrote to her that I was living in Vancouver, she asked me to buy her some of that Jasmine oil, but I couldn't find it.
