Hands Salute! Happy Veterans Day to you!

Thank you. One day I will tell you the story of Major Hernani Dumlao, my Commanding Officer for a brief period. His father was a Filipino Scout and fought under the direction of General Douglas MacArthur. I met him in Amarillo, Texas in 1981.

Can someone explain to me how the death of 55,000 American kids and a couple of million Vietnamese has kept me free?

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/11/2016 8:19 am:
First of all, it was more than 58,300 Americans who died in Vietnam. Since Canada was considered a "non-belligerant" during the Vietnam conflict, we protected your freedom for you. But we do appreciate you providing a haven for all the cowards who fled to Canada.

Oh, and you are free now, aren't you?

Remembrance Day in Canada is a very solemn time. We honour all those who served in the past, and those who were injured or lost their lives.

How a nation treats its veterans tells much about that country.

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/11/2016 8:23 am:
I thank all of the Canadian veterans also, especially those who gave their all during WW II.

Thank you to ALL veterans for their service!

I agree. I appreciate them all.

I am curious to hear the story!

The Dumlao family name is familiar to me. They might be in my home province Ilocos Norte.

His English was not too good but his son translated when necessary. He escaped captivity by the Japanese twice and was wounded in the battle for Mindanao, I think. I wish I knew which part of your homeland he was from but I'm not sure. His son told me he was decorated by the American forces for the role he played.

I wonder if any more Japanese soldiers will come out of hiding in your homeland. The last I heard about was 1974, more than 29 years after the war had ended. The first thing I thought about, other than his extreme dedication, is how much he got in back pay.

i might suggest CP use an UXO to do so... not really but her comment out of line

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/11/2016 4:31 pm:
I think she may have an UXO M-67 already inserted. The only way to remove it is to pull the pin and then everyone would benefit.

Thank you Rocket... I was going to comment along the same lines. My hubby served post war (during the cold war & later) for 33 years. His father & 4 uncles served in WWII. Two of his uncles did not make it back and while my hubby and I were stationed in Europe, we visited their graves & took pictures for my hubby's grandmother (at her request). I never fail to thank a veteran (both Canadian and American) for their service.

For anyone who something nasty to say to a Vet, like I see here in comments, should be ashamed of herself!!!

Thank you for your service, Jack!!

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/12/2016 7:57 am:
Thanks, Bonnie. I think the bitterness shown by CP is a result of two of her heroes getting their butts kicked - Cam Newton in the Super Bowl and Hillary Clinton in the election. I think maybe some of her internal organs may have exploded and caused her to go off the deep end.

Plus, she has the hots for old Fossil, you know? She just can't stay away from me in the blogs. Wait and see. She'll publish another one about me soon. In the meantime, thank you for your comment and thank you to the brave Canadian soldiers who fought for your freedom and mine.

Maggie, before you comment on another country's President Elect, please remember that the late PM Elliott Trudeau (our current PM's father) was the #1 draft dodger in Canada. If you search the internet, you'll see pics of him taken during the war where he drove around Montreal on a motorcycle wearing a German jacket, Swastika & all!!! Just imagine how ashamed we were of him back then. So stop throwing stones. Incidentally, our current PM could care less about the military!

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/12/2016 8:09 am:
Trudeau has already been in contact with Trump and expressed his willingness to re-negotiate NAFTA. Maybe a new era of Canadian/America relations is forming. Two rebels loose in North America at once time. God help us all.

The problem I have with Remembrance Day ceremonies in Canada is that they have an atmosphere of war glorification.

The the motto should be 'Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori'.

IMHO what we should be remembering on November 11th is appalling pointless slaughter and the suffering of young men who didn't know what they were getting themselves into.

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/12/2016 8:18 am:
Sounds a little nazi-ish to me but I guess it is an acquired taste for pseudo-intellectual like yourself.

I disagree 100% & you should be ashamed of yourself, Rentier!!

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Boogie. Her comments are also very disturbing to me. Obviously she's a very sick person if she has such low regard for any veteran regardless of her personal disdain for someone. Just ignore her!! I have long ago!!

Fossil, thank you for all your comments, including to those two who responded to mine. You have a wonderful way with words. I won't even bother commenting directly to them, it's useless, they obviously don't get it! That cranial-rectal conflict they have is terminal ROFL

The gall of Maggie commenting on another country's head politician when our own Canadian Prime Minister and his father before him was a total disgrace to all Veterans who served and to those who lie in Flanders Fields and beyond!!! May they all RIP.

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/15/2016 12:54 pm:
Salsa, thanks for your comments. The two of them are having a little two-girl party on their own, it seems. I don't seem anyone else offering much support.

Hey my comments weren't directed at you, so give it up! You and Maggie (being so close in friendship, obviously) should form your own nasty blog!!! As for you, I am far from ignorant. I might surprise you with my knowledge of world politics, something you should learn yourself!!!

Fossil_Fetcher replies on 11/16/2016 7:59 am:
She is the Hillbilly version of the anti-Christ. You tripped her up and she is grasping at straws trying to insult you and I and anything we believe in.

That had absolutely nothing to do with my response to you. My comments re US politics will remain here with friends of mine who happen to be much more cordial and knowledgeable than you are. So bottom line here, is that when responding stick to my comments or please don't bother responding at all!

Thanks to those like you, Fossil, my late hubby & other vets who served. Those who dits at times like this need to remember that if we hadn't won the war, she'd be under German rule, speaking German, not English!!!
