Food Poisoning--Yikssss

Just recovering from a bout of "spring cleaning" wasn't pleasant. I think it was from tomato basil soup, as it wasn't very warm when served. It was at a restaurant in the States, will be some time before I go back there.Lol.

A BIG "Thank You" to Rocketship, she took me to the hospital, and stayed with me for the 4 hours while I got some meds. and IV.

After watching "Kitchen Nightmares" and graduating from the "Food Safe" course, I am a bit finicky when it comes to eating out.

One of the, if not the highest-end restaurant in my city, sickened (and killed) some of its customers with botulism. Botulism is often fatal.

The less-serious form of food poisoning is salmonella. My Food Safe instructor said 90% of the population has been affected by some form of salmonella. Most did not even know it; they didn't feel quite right, but never thought it came from a food-borne illness. Not all those cases were from restaurants. They infected themselves in their own homes or were a guest at a friend or relative's home. The instructor also said supermarket delis were really bad sources of salmonella. Those all-day/night buffets are also risky. They tend to keep food too long at the wrong temperature. Hot food should be held at 140 °F or warmer. Cold food should be held at 40 °F or colder.
Do you ever see anyone going around sticking a food thermometer into the food at these places? I never have! I bet the source of your sickness was that tomato-basil soup. It was not kept hot enough.

If I do eat out, I choose Japanese because it is prepared fresh (but I do not eat raw-fish sushi). I stick with the vegetarian options because of the minimal risk of contamination.

Hope you're feeling better soon, Deb. BTW, did you report your illness to the health authorities? You can also go online and check out the health inspector's report for most restaurants. It's usually within the city/municipal jurisdiction under "Health Inspector - Restaurants."

I had it one time and by the time I was over it 2 weeks had went by due to it being a week before I got the results from Hospital Tests. Then after they did not give me enough antibotics to cure me and I left on a 500 mile trip it was another week. I have been told by several people about how mild their food poisoning was and how quickly their getting better was. That is not always the case.

I'm feeling better ty, but it sure took it's toll on me.
I have been trying to get the manager of the restaurant, she is never in--- the should be a RED flag for how it is run, as staff never have the same standards as the owners. O'well I will keep trying.
