....I have been told and have read many times that relationships have to start with chemistry and if theres no chemistry there will be no relationship. So what is chemistry? Please select one and if not please feel free to comment.

I find chemistry to be a combination of many things...physical attraction, common values, mutual goals in life & a relationship, some common interests and personalities at that mesh......that's a lot of stuff and it just doesn't happen in an instant...I have found it to be best to know as much as possible about a person before you meet face to face other wise that physical attraction part can overwhelm the rest and some times common sense.....I know some say meet first to see if it is worth going further but I don't agree and for me it worked.....depends on which part is most important to the person I guess....I wanted it all...and got it....

I didn't vote as my choice wasn't there

Some believe in destiny, some believe in fate. I believe that happiness is something we create

Happymimi ... Yes if the chemistry is not there it never will be there but my question is what is "relationship" chemistry?

Chuck ...well said so you think its a matter of a persons cognitive will instead of physical excitement.....makes sense to me....

Hi 60Min: Good blog. I have felt that "chemistry" twice in my whole life. I can't explain what exactly I felt but it was maybe the feeling that I wanted to hold their hand all the time, and I just felt so comfortable with them. I often wonder what it was about those two particular men and why I didn't feel that way with other men, as both of them were so different. I often wonder if it was just a coincidence that both of those men felt that same chemistry for me too. I think chemistry goes beyond looks or personality, something we will never fully understand.

Now I think that when I feel that deep chemistry for a man I should probably run the other way.

There are spiritual aspects to love, saying that, there can be many unhealthy reasons for the sparks, or we would have a higher success rate.Personally, I have mistaken fear or excitement for "chemistry".

Something to consider? Could be there are more than one level of Chemistry. The first time it hits you have a small circle of friends and or in a small community. You may think it is the highest level, stop looking and step into a relationship. For those that have a broader area to find a mate you may have a couple of 'hits' and pause to get a grip (and happen to travel to another area) and darn there is another! Yes, I've known a few that relate that (in other terms), but still the same thing.

If you get into Astrology, it could be planetary energies that blend well. For example a Man with a Leo Sun and a Taurus Moon would do well with a wwoman with a Cancer Sun and a Libra Moon. Leo is Fire which blends well with Libra which is Air. Taurus is Earth which blends well with Cancer which is water. The Sun Sign and Moon Sign are compared to determine compatibility versus how the site compares Sun Sign to Sun Sign.

Ah, the hell with it anymore. Out with the over-idealized misrepresentation of life a.k.a. romantic "chemistry." I've decided to keep is strictly "scientific," from now on.

It is nothing more than a quantifiable amount of O2,C,H,N,Ca,P, melded with trace elements of K,Se, Cl,Na,Mg,Fe,Co,Cu,Z,I,Se and F, X2.

I would suggest that 'chemistry' is an aspect of love. Hard to define because it is that inarticulable aspect.
Intuitive
Empathy
Appeal (almost a magnetism)
Harmony
There are aspects of love that you can identify and quantify. But when the impulse is automatic, to smile at the thought of the other person or maybe simply joining hands at the same moment when walking. It has likely been described as love at first sight. It can certainly have an element of lust.

Chemistry is not neccesary, it can come latter or be loved latter, it all depends on both individuals willingness.

The chemistry does not necessarily have to be there to begin with, it can evolve over time and grow into something very joyous, deep and beautifull.
Non the less chemistry is the key stone in a very loving and fulfilling relationship.
