Looking a Gift in the Mouth......

..........Americans are harder workers, more philanthropic, individualistic, self-reliant, anti-government than people in most other countries. We've turned what was an 18th-century 3rd World nation into the freest and most prosperous nation in mankind's entire history.
..........OK how did it happen? I am of the opinion that it was our founding fathers and their infinite wisdom in forging that little document called the Constitution. They all had a deep abiding mistrust for Government. Why else do the words say that Congress shall not: abridge, infringe, deny, disparage, violate and deny. They also included separation of powers, checks and balances and the provisions such as the Electoral College and the requirement that three-quarters of state legislatures ratify changes in the Constitution. They knew if the bill of rights were not added the Government would not allow them own their own.
..........We have a new administration that wants to implement "Change". They have brought to the debate table bailouts, stimulus and health care. The arguments are centered around whether such involvement is a good idea or a bad idea and whether one program is more costly than another. These have no relevance because what should be debated is that such government involvement in our lives permissible under the U.S. Constitution? Somehow many Americans and our elected leaders want to ignore that document when crafting legislation that grows the Government. They could care less what it says or does not say. Government is viewed by many as the all encompassing savior and knows what is best for us. Cradle to grave. Sound familiar? You bet it does because that's exactly what the Plantation owner told his slaves.
......So go ahead my friends be wary of politicians bearing gifts, be suspicious, ask questions. We are losing what's made our country great. Instead of moving toward greater liberty, we're moving toward greater government control of our lives.

....."I do solemnly swear......to the best of my ability , preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.......So help me God"......B. Obama Jan. 20th 2009.

60Min's/Richard, if YOU had been elected as Prez of the USA and/or in Congress, what would you personally be doing to cure all the ills of which you speak/write/blog?

    Quoting  :

the problem is you actually believe this ~ dont wonder that some nations see this as arrogance and an insult to there own efforts

think about everything that a nation requires and america has it from oil and coal to good farming land all on its door step , unlike many other countries the living is easy

No doubt about it, Americans are God's Chosen People.
I'm pleased as punch, and deeply honnoured simply to be allowed to live next door to The Greatest Nation On Earth.

60min: I'm with you as the government, the Constitution and most all else that's in this blog....

What I believe is one of our serious problems, in this Country, is that we have lost individual "values".... and, "SHAME"... That is, people no longer look askance on others who may be playing the system, taking advantage of the downtrodden and less fortunate... that sort of thing. It would be GREAT if we could say to - and get people to - for example, be FAMILIES.... in which men and women are PARENTS to their kids..... and, as PARENTS they instill the little monsters with a sense of fairness, kindness, compassion and self-worth.

Unfortunately, we have very many ADULTS who behave 'way more as CHILDREN..... so don't know HOW to be parents/adults ... because the generation before them never showed them how. This is a downwards spiral, as more and more parents and adults fail in that role...

I'm not sure just how "we" can correct for that.... but this Country would sure be a better place if we COULD (start toward that correction)....

ackman1465 73M

10/22/2009 7:01 am

P.S. I guess my above sort of begs the question of what my content has/had to do with your submittal, no????

Well.... those adults-who-don't/won't behave as adults REALLY DO crave a parent figure.... and many believe that THE GOVERNMENT can, and will, provide that. Think of it.. as kids many/most "expected" to get a weekly allowance. Some families tied allowances to chores; others may not have done so... Getting an allowance is frighteningly similar to the current forms of "Government assistance".... wherein there is no tie to ACCOMPLISHING something as a condition of receiving it.... The upshot? Listen to the ROAR when a government attempts the like of "work-fare".... and actually tried to get people to WORK for the assistance they get...

It's matters like this that are at the heart of the chaos that we are experiencing in many facets of modern life here in the good old USofA, America....

Richard - It appears that some more modern Americans aren't such diligent workers and would rather steal Walter E. Williams work, without giving him credit, than write their own.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

Alfie you are right I have neglected to say that I have taken some excerpts from an article by Mr. Williams. I usually do that and I will correct that over sight. That being said the blog is mine and I stand behind its content.

flirty..... Elle mentioned Ills OK what Ills does she refer to? On a personal level? Probably many of the things that the President campaigned on but is not doing. He said he would not sign bills laden with Pork. He said the day of lobbyist running things will be over. He said that transparancey will be a hallmark of his Administration. He said that he believed that traditional marriage is between a man and a woman. He said that there will be no goverment funds allocated for abortions. He said that 8 yrs of the failed policies of the Bush Administration would be over but continues them. His only campaign promise he has seemed to have kept was the closing of Gitmo but now he seems to be flopping on that issue. I guess he wants to put Fox News somwhere.....be honest now have you ever heard of an Administration so preoccupied with a TV network?

Blackpool my friend I dont know how to take your comment. I did say most (not all) Countries. I am sorry you read that as arrogant as I did not mean it to be. I am proud of America's exceptualism and through all of our problems we have always found a way to overcome them. Thanks for your input. CJC and I plan on being in Dublin next spring and hope you would be there as well.....

Hi Sandy....First let me say you must be looking forward to moving back to the west coast but I also know moving can be nerve racking and stressful. May you keep your sanity and stay calm as it will be over soon. I do not know of what list you refer and I didnt say anything about a list just that in 234 years United States has become the freeest most prosperous Coutry ever and what I feel was the reason for it.....Take care and tell Mike to drive safely

60Min's/Richard:

I'll c/p it here my reply as the next paragraph - so that you can and hopefully WILL SEE that I DID ask you a specific question - you didn't want to 'see' that, eh?

"60Min's/Richard, if YOU had been elected as Prez of the USA and/or in Congress, what would you personally be doing to cure all the ills of which you speak/write/blog?"

60Min's/Richard: RE-READ the paragraph just above - you didn't geddit the first time - possibly by re-reading, you might geddit, eh?

Your reply to me didn't mean anything except that you were having a 'mood' -and- wrote a rude/insulting reply, which makes me SERIOUSLY wonder whether it's YOU who would do well to have a generous amount of prunes with your brekkie DAILY (also, w/lunch and dinner) - along with that nutritious fruit, also gulp a 1/2 cup of castor oil. Actually much better/healthful would be if you would use Extra Virgin Olive Oil - FACT IS - EVOO is much healthier for us'n human folks than castor oil!

Elle Thanks for the remedy I will take it under advisement. what you see as Ills I see as challenges. The things I would do would be the things I campaigned on. You know that would be a good blog subject what one would do if elected to a political office I will give that much thought....

60min: One thing I WILL note, relative to the vitriolic rhetoric being aimed at Prez Obama:

He has now been in office about 9 months. "The right" - that's the Hannitys and Limbaughs and Becks are clamoring to point out that there are STILL problems in this country... and WHY HASN'T HE GOT THEM SOLVED (yet)????

Well, consider that the Congress was under a Republican majority from 1994 'til 2008.... and the White House had a Republican Administration from 2001 to 2009..... Heck, 60min... THEY had either 8 or 14 years to screw things up!!!! Isn't it reasonable to believe that those who follow them might not be able to correct their egregious ineptitude in more than a couple of months??????

bikenski 80M

To be serious for a moment, difficult as it is for me, I'm not surprised by Richard's attitude.

The less thoughtful citizens of most imperial powers have felt much the same when their lot was on top - e.g. the French, the Spanish, the Dutch, the Romans. Even my gang had its moment in history in the 16th century when Poland stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea.

The Brits, of course, were particularly outstanding in this regard. Even as late as the 1950's when I was a lad in elementary school it was pointed out to us how much of the world was pink, the colour used to designate countries loyal to Britain.

US hegemony will collapse just as previous imperial powers dropped into the rubbish bin of history.

Richard - for any one living outside the usa it has a ring of arrogance , we all strive to build a life for ourselves and our children that was better then our parents

in many countries that is much harder than others whilst the American boasts of being bigger better and more wealthy than anyone else has the opposite effects on foriegners than was probably intended
