Obama's Rose Garden.......... .....On Wednesday night I listened intently to President Obama's speech before Congress and the Nation about selling his Health Care reform. Other than some Republican calling out that he lied, the speech was devoid of details on how it would be implemented and administered. In order for him to "sell" this plan he had to make certain promises of which I seriously doubt he can keep. Perhaps the most glaring promise was one that said he will not sign a health care reform bill that increases (adds to) the deficit one dime!.....Lets examine another government promise shall we? One that is all to painful for most of us on April 15th. In 1913 2/3 of the States ratified the 13th amendment which gave to Congress the power to levy and collect income taxes. To do that it was sold as a flat tax of 1% on most wage earners. It only had one page of instructions to complete the tax form itself! Subsequent Congresses have taken that simple idea and have created a monstrosity that we have today. Consider this; if you were a single taxpayer in 1913 earning $40,000 a year your taxes with exemptions would have been $300 dollars. Today a single person earning the same amount with the same exemptions would send to the Government $4,665 dollars on April 15th. If my math is correct that's a 1555% increase. Think about other Government programs on what we were initially promised and what we have now.......I know Mr. President that you never promised us a "Rose Garden" but at least be truthful to us. Tell us what the true cost will be, tell us how much more revenue the government needs to implement it. My Dad once told me that the 2 biggest liars are lawyers and car salesman. Seadiver wether it was or not its the law of the land now. I dont see it being repealed anytime soon. Income tax was first implemented during the Civil War but in 1895 was ruled unconstitutional, Pollock vs Farmers Loan. Congress remedied that ruling with the 16th amendment. We were sold a bill of goods then just like we are being sold with Health care now. The promises the President outlined perpetuates a fraud on ordinary Americans.
