A Rose by anyother name

Edmonton Alberta. Late Saturday night after the Edmonton Eskimos football game while a police officer was directing traffic, a white Chev Malibu traveling at a great rate of speed, crashed through a traffic barrier striking the police officer, sending him several feet through the air and then crashed into the parked police car. The driver then got out of the car and stabbed the officer several times before running away. There was a ISIS State flag on the front seat of the car. Later on a Police Officer stopped a U-Haul Rental Truck and noticed the driver had a similar name as the driver of the car. A chase ensued and the truck, while being chased, was aiming at pedestrians in crosswalks and street. The driver managed to hit at least four people. Their injuries were not immediately known.

Sounds like an Islamic Terrorist attack to me.

Edmonton Mayor Don Iverson said "To the best of our knowledge this was a Lone Wolf attack. It is vital now that we do not succumb to hatred, that we not be intimidated by violence and that we respond with the loving strength of this whole community ... we will not be divided"

Poor Terrorist, he must be scared, let us comfort him and say There There Now.

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley call the attacks horrific "It has left us shocked at the indiscriminate cruelty and angry that someone might target their hatred at places where we gather with our families and friends. Hatred has no place in Alberta. It's not who we are. We are in this together and together we are stronger than any form of hate."

Our Premiers way of saying .....What the heck happened. To me it sure sounded like an Islamic Terror attack. But what the heck do I know I am just a Leftest Conservative who has no right to be pi$$ed off with Islamic extremists. Bill m103 says I can not speak out about Islamophobia or the irrational fear of Muslims. We must accept their way of life. Some poor terrorist needs a hug, Group Hug anyone?

Hi Dinty.....on another note I was in your fair city in September. My sister and husband moved to Red Deer in April. Catching a flight from Calgary to Red Deer isn't the best way to go.

"Bill m103 says I can not speak out about Islamophobia or the irrational fear of Muslims. We must accept their way of life"

That is not what m103 says at all.

What it says is that the people of Canada must accept that Muslims also have the freedom to live their way of life.

A different thing altogether.

Oh yes, I see you got a copy of Hillary's talking points. Did you get an autographed photo with them?

Typical....Your mind runs on rails.....people with similar ideals and faced with the same information, reach similar conclusions.......but you and the other Trumpers have never experienced anything but running on rails, so you assume others do the same.....Republicans are Authoritarian.......and prove it every day......Did you hear O'Reilly's comment on the mass shooting in Las Vegas?......He says that it's the price Americans have to pay for freedom.......

Thankfully this Canadian terrorist 'imported' while PM Harper was in charge was far less successful than the 'home grown' terrorist in Las Vegas yesterday.

My sympathies go out to the families of all who lost someone and to the families of the injured.

When you import terrorists into your country you shouldn't be surprised when they commit acts of terror.

When you have slack gun laws, a gun marketplace that has few restrictions and severely negligent Mental Health systems, you shouldn't be surprised when there are acts of Domestic Terror like in Nevada this morning........

Interesting, isn't it, that one injured cop and no deaths, equals a "terror attack" and everyone should be afraid......but no thoughts and prayers for anyone.......and your next blog is all thoughts and prayers for the victims of the largest domestic terror attack in US history and there is no mention of terrorism and the fear of the public of the increase in Domestic Terrorism.......Scrambled brains on the menu at SFF this morning.

Hi Shartaun, always glad to see you. Inside information may soon come out to show he was part of a cell. (but I feel it will be suppressed)

Edmonton attack suspect facing terrorism charges was investigated by RCMP in 2015
(This has been all over our news today & found in The Globe and Mail):

In 2015, as the threat of radicalization became an increasing issue in Edmonton’s Somali community, RCMP counter-terrorism investigators received a tip about a man in his late 20s who had been “espousing extremist ideology,” and launched an investigation that included interviews with the man and others – but which was ultimately closed without further action.

This weekend, that same man emerged as the suspect in a violent rampage that left a police officer and four other people injured in Edmonton, and which investigators believe was an act of terrorism. Police have identified the man as a 30-year-old Somali refugee but did not release his name on Sunday because he had not yet been formally charged.

Police sources have identified him as Abdulahi Hasan Sharif.

“At the end of that exhaustive investigation, there was insufficient evidence to pursue terrorism charges or a peace bond,” said RCMP Assistant Commissioner Marlin Degrand, speaking about the 2015 investigation at a news conference in Edmonton on Sunday afternoon. “Further, the suspect was not deemed, at that time, to pose a threat to the security of Canada based on the information that was available to investigators.”

He said the suspect showed no active signs of recruitment or radicalization to violence at that time, had no record of criminal interactions with police, and that investigators had no intelligence that warranted keeping him under investigation. Mr. Sharif is now in police custody facing charges including five counts of attempted murder and terrorism offences after a string of violent incidents that sent a police officer and four others to hospital in Edmonton on Saturday night.

Police have said evidence from the scenes, including an Islamic State flag found inside the suspect’s vehicle, has led them to believe it was a terrorist act.

“From all indications, it appears that this was a single individual acting alone,” Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht said at the press conference on Sunday, though he cautioned that police are exploring several leads, and that the situation could change. “We are actually less than 24 hours into this investigation. We have no reason to believe that there is any threat to our city, but we encourage citizens to be vigilant and to report any unusual or suspicious activities to our police complaint line.”

The incident began around 8:15 p.m. when a white Chevy Malibu plowed through a barricade into a police officer directing traffic near Commonwealth Stadium, where the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were playing the Eskimos.

A surveillance video released by police shows the officer being tossed through the air after being hit by the car, which then rams into a police cruiser. While passersby run to the officer to help, the suspect can be seen getting out of his car and repeatedly stabbing the injured officer lying on the pavement. The officer and attacker can be seen struggling before the attacker flees the scene on foot.

Chief Knecht said the police officer, 48-year-old Constable Mike Chernyk, fought off a knife attack with one hand while holding his gun with the other, and suffered multiple stab wounds to his face and head from a large knife, and significant abrasions to his arms from being struck by the vehicle. Despite the severity of the attack, Chief Knecht said the 11-year member of the force has been released from hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Hardeep Singh was working behind the counter inside the store at the corner of 107A Avenue and 92nd Street when he heard a collision out front.

Mr. Singh, who moved to Edmonton from India 41/2 years ago, immediately went outside. By then, he said, the assailant that had struck the police officer with his car was on top of him and attempting to stab him.

Now come on, Dinty..... you are so far behind the times here. First, we must determine the motive behind this attack. Just because he had an ISIS flag, ran over a policeman then got out and stabbed him.... and later tried to run from the police and hit pedestrians, does not mean he is a radical Islamic terrorist. But it sure does stink like he is one, doesn't it?
BTW, was he captured? or killed?
