Your going to like this one Dan A young 15yr old Omar Khadr left Canada in July 2002 to go to Afghanistan and join a terrorist group. Khadr is alleged to have killed a United States special forces soldier and wounded several others with a grenade after a fierce firefight and bombardment by US troops at a compound in Afghanistan. Khadr was injured and captured by American Forces and ended up as a Guantanamo Bay inmate. Omar Khadr brought a $20,000,000 lawsuit against Canada. Khadr's suit claimed Canada had violated his rights and was complicit with the United States when he was detained at the US base in Cuba, denied access to a lawyer and tortured. The Supreme Court of Canada in 2010 ruled Khadr's rights had been violated. Ottawa formally apologized to Khadr this week and paid him to settle a longstanding lawsuit ---reportedly to the tune of $10,500,000. I think that when Omar Khadr left Canada to fight with a terrorist group he lost all his Canadian Human Rights. Federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer said Khadr has already been compensated by being able to live freely in Canada. |

Prime Minister Trudeau says the Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects all Canadians. "even when it is uncomfortable." "When the government violates any Canadian's Charter rights, we all end up paying for it." he said. But he was, and is, a citizen ofCanada and should be treated as such. Other countries, the UK and Australia, repatriated their citizens from Gitmo before Omar was sent to Canada. We were far too slow in bringing him back. One suspects that the Harper govt was respnsible for the lack of action.

(Quoted in a newspaper article here... by John Moore of The Toronto Star) "It’s not just the settlement that many regard as odious. It’s the appearance that the Trudeau government expedited the payment so Khadr’s lawyers and accountants could firewall the money against the filing of paperwork to apply an American civil judgment in Canada. As Moore goes on to say: " It wasn't an appearance but a reality. "Reason and facts are not going to prevail in this case. A dead American marine, an unrepentant terrorist father, and Khadr’s hijab-wearing, Canada-hating immediate family are going to resonate right through until election day."

This case shows the double standard at play. When Omar's detention in Gitmo was in the news, an African kid who had been a child soldier, and admitted killing people, was on a book and talk show tour of the US. Numerous dead Africans apparently matter a lot less than one US special forces soldier.

This is a tricky case because this is a 15 year old Canadian born citizen who was without legal counsel and tortured into a confession. In the United States - if the worse criminal is denied an attorney and tortured into confession - the prosecutor can lose the trial based on that technicality even if the criminal is absolutely guilty. I am certain that the same scenerio happens with Canadian Charter rights. Senator John McCain - A Republican was also a prisoner of war in Vietnam who was also beaten, tortured and starved. His position is that "Torture doesn't work!" “I know from personal experience that the abuse of prisoners will produce more bad than good intelligence,” McCain said, singling out the tactic of waterboarding in particular. “I know that victims of torture will offer intentionally misleading information if they think their captors will believe it. I know they will say whatever they think their torturers want them to say if they believe it will stop their suffering.”

So instead of arresting them all as part of a terrorist group, they are now suddenly very rich, and can use your government's own money to plan for the destruction of your country? Something is very rotten in Denmark..... or make that Canada.

The whole thing stinks! ---- Starting with a FIFTEEN year old boy joining a terrorist group. But the whole world seems to be going crazy. Oh and she met (visited) him in prison, how interesting. You should read her FB page. Yep you got it, she supports the Taliban and they can both do it in style. You can bet your booties that his countrymen will be very interested in his support of them. So now you know where our payout will be going, or part of it (domestic terrorism and radicalization??)! The bride to be is a radical Palestinian-Canadian activist, Muna Abougoush, who got to know him by visiting him in prison. Young women visiting prisons to woo murderers and even marrying them is not a rare phenomenon. It’s a psychological condition called hybristophilia. I’m not a psychologist, but I don’t think that’s the reason why Abougoush wants to marry Khadr. I think she’s a fellow traveller — a radical Muslim, anti-Israel activist. And in her, Khadr can build an anti-Canada, pro-terrorism family, just like his father did. His father, Ahmed Khadr, came to Canada, and was given everything, then used Canada as a base to raise money for Al Qaida ....... and when things got tough overseas, Khadr would flee back to Canada for free health care. And to raise more money from Canadian mosques for terrorism. Omar Khadr will now continue what his father started. Some of Muna Abougoushher’s online writing: supporting radical Muslim groups, like ICNA, the folks behind the lawsuit to wear a niqab in citizenship court. And — of course— she supports Justin Trudeau... huge surprise (not)! Check out her FB page....

Absolutely correct, Dinty: when Omar Khadr left Canada to fight with a terrorist group he lost all his Canadian Human Rights. Federal Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer said Khadr has already been compensated by being able to live freely in Canada. I AGREE... MOST DEFINITELY!!! Sorry Rocket, I do NOT agree with Trudeau's comments! Half the time, I doubt he knows what he says, that is unless it's been scripted for him!!
