The provence of Alberta is going to lower the breathalyzer test from .08 to .05. After one drink most people will blow a .05 on the breathalyzer, that would be a single glass of wine with your supper, a beer, or one 8oz drink of hard liquor. Did you know that some people will even blow .02 after an 8oz glass of milk. Correct, .02 after an 8oz glass of milk, it was in one of my medical journals(of which I can not seem to locate).

I am not, nor will I ever be a proponent of drunk driving, but if Alberta is going to be "holier than thou" with harsh drinking and driving laws, why don't they be proactive and provide government acceptable breathalyzers, at cost, for all it's citizens. Let's be proactive. That way any citizen who does blow below .05 to .08 can hang around the restaurant for 4 hours before driving in case they are stopped by the law and givin a 24 hour licence suspension and have their car impounded(the least action taken) plus a big fine(total action taken). Talk about a cash cow ticket.

We had it lowered from .08 to .05 two years ago. It was brought about by a woman and her husband who lost their little girl being hitten by a drunken woman driver. It was very sad and they lobbied it till it went through. I cant say that I blame them. There are still people out there who still think they can get away with it. Tis a sad situation. I dont frink much anyway so one glass of wine with a meal suits me fine.

P.S. I live in British Columbia

Hi Shartaun nice to see you again. I hate to see DUI people get away with it also. Yet they seem to get chance after chance. We need better laws, stronger laws, not lower breathalyzer values.

I'm sorry, I feel very strongly about drunk drivers. I love to see the RIDE programs out, Instead of worrying about it, don't drink if you are going behind the wheel of a car. Only the driver can not drink, everyone else can.
You know what closed the bars here..No Smoking by law. People stay home so they can smoke and drink...now that's a good thing...just don't drive..not a car, an ATV, a skidoo, a boat a seadoo....they will all cost you your driving license, a fine and maybe jail time.

Its really simple..if you drive..DON'T DRINK

Still no smoking rule here Morgana, but the bar's, lounges, clubs, and casinos are doing a booming business. The point is, .05 is just to low a limit. Some cough drops will cause you to blow .05, some mouth washes(even that little squirt) will cause you to blow .05, some meds will cause a .05. Heck a drink of milk can cause you to blow .02 should we get the RIDE program to cover that also?
