There was an interesting column in the Toronto Globe And Mail about Chavez and his approach to governing. Chavez did it like Argentina (and Cuba) did it - massive government control and intervention. Brazil and Chile a adopted more laissez-faire approach allowing private enterprises to operate more freely. The size of the middle class in Venezuela and Argentina decreased, while in Brazil and Chile it grew. Brazil and Chile devoted more effort to developing long term solutions. No question that Chavez's methods helped the people at the very bottom, but whether that will serve the nation well in the long run is yet to be seen.

Hi Alpine: Wow, I didn't see that on t.v. I think it's weird though that his corpse will be on display in a glass coffin forever. He may have been a great guy, but unless those instructions were in his Will and he prepaid all the costs, then to me that is ridiculous.
