I'm curious....what's the strangest thing you know that people collect?

Lyn wrote a blog recently about her collection of chopsticks and it inspired me to wonder - what do you collect? What is the most unique thing you have ever heard people collect?

I knew one gentleman who collected eggcups. He had such a great collection that when he died they were donated to a museum! I've known people who collect Elvis memorabilia of course, not so unique, but fascinating. My went to school with a girl whose mother had an "Elvis shrine" - a whole room with red velvet walls and filled with Elvis stuff. Every year on the anniversary of his death, she spends the whole day in there and cries. Kinda spooky.

My collections are not so unique - first edition books about the South and Southern writers...mammy dolls...vintage linens. I search for anything and everything and sell them at online auctions. Great way to pick up a few extra bucks.

So how about it? Any of you want to let us in on your secret collecting pleasures? Should be interesting?!!

Peace and love.

Hi Joyce: I have a beautiful collection of hundreds of tiny dogs in lighted glass and cherry wood display cases. I have made rhinestone collars for many of them.

I used to collect owls, had them all over the house. One day I looked at one and thought.........yuck. I got rid of them and have never been able to collect anything since. However, I guess I do collect books. Lordy, I see a pile of them and they scream my name, Annnn, come look! I usually buy one or two. We have a bedroom with 2 good size bookshelves. They are packed. I am back reading again, so am plugging my way through them. I also have gotten rid of some I wished I hadn't but have been lucky to find them again in thrift shops, book sales, etc.

Ah, Lyn...I knew we were sisters! I too clung to books even as a small child because I realized early on they could transport me to faraway lands and exotic people. I guess it's an obsession with me because I love my South and the writers it has produced.

I had to cull my lot a few years back when I had to sell my home...believe me, I still get homesick missing them.

You enjoy your day as well my friend. Thanks for making mine brighter.

I'm wondering just how big that belly button is!!!

I saw a TV show once about an artist who collects dryer lint and has created some beautiful pieces, one being "The Last Supper". Amazing. And she makes zillions of dollars too.

That just sounds so beautiful, Bij. I have lots of miniatures too, but they are just displayed in fancy ole printer's trays heehee.

And how do you make a teeny tinny rhinestone collar!!! You could make a fortune with that, G/F!

Hee hee Jano. You are so funny. And I love that you collect yellow, because blue and yellow are my favorite colors. I used to collect those yellow smiley faces but it got to be too much.

I'll bet you've got some great poodle stuff.

Years ago I collected figure planter head vases. I sold them when I moved. I have a collection of Military Unit Patches that I've collected while working as a government contractor. My favorite is from the AWACS crew. AWACS is the radar plane with the rotating dome on top. I had the privilage to work and fly with the crew back in mid 90's.

My other collection is money from places that I've traveled. I have a few additional coins and bills for other countries that people have given but the majority are ones that I've acquired in my travels.

Hi Joyce: There is a new t.v. show on The Learning Channel about strange collections. The preview shows a little boy who collects hundreds of vacuum cleaners, and the really strange part is that he can tell exactly which vacuum cleaner it is by its sound.

Coney, I have a dear friend who lost her hair when undergoing chemo. She does beautiful crochet and she spends her evenings making the sweetest little hats and donates them to cancer patients.

Maybe you might be willing to consider this too. As for purses - I too love love love them.

I used to collect pigs, yes pigs, now I only have a couple of them, I used to have tons of books, those I got rid off when I moved last time, but I do have hundreds of cookbooks, I needed them in my business, I only get one magazine a month....I am an avid reader, I have had a Kindle for several years, easy to download books and keep the clutter down...
I went through the pig phase myself hee hee - I still have my favorite ones.

You keep those cookbooks - one day I am coming out there and let you cater me a meal

If you have a signed copy of Ms. Lee's book, you are in rare company. She is a virtual recluse and gives no autographs or interviews, so it is very valuable! Even if it's a 1st edition, it's still very valuable.

Of course you know that! And I'm laughing thinking about all those clocks ticking hee hee.
