Losing it....week one

Losing It…the 2nd week.

OK…ok….I’ll confess. I was skeptical. And frankly discouraged. That and my blood sugar spiked, which I’ll have to address. Today was weigh-in day. A dear friend who got me started on this trip confessed that their first weigh in showed a loss of six pounds. I was set to see something like that. Knowing that men lose weight at a considerably different rate than women to (generally speaking), I was looking towards 10 pounds….I’d be happy with that…10 pounds a week = 40 pounds a month….great way to start.

The scale….it’s a VA scale and it was the same scale I used to weigh myself LAST Monday. One nice thing is that I’ll see it again this Friday (for a Dr. appt) and again a week from today. (ANOTHER Dr. Apt.) So the numbers (I hope) are at least as stable as I can make them. I do have a scale HERE now and will use it this morning to see what it shows….although…I’m tempted not to!

I know… I know…you’re all waiting:

DOWN…. 29 POUNDS!

I mean…hokey smokes Bullwinkle! 29 pounds! IN ONE WEEK! I had no idea…none…no hint, no clue…nothing.

SO…I treated myself. Nonononononono…nothing like Krispy Kremes. I bought some decaf Earl Grey tea and treated myself this morning to a nice hot (it is, after all 22 degrees) cup of tea!

There are two things that come instantly to mind. Both, I suspect, I real pitfalls.

The first is simply this: If it worked THIS well and I cut out all of the crap and junk and even stuff that wasn’t so junky….how about if I cut out some of the things on THIS diet as well…and see if that’ll help things go even faster!

The second is probably more rational. 29 pounds in a week would be 116 pounds in a month! Such is not possible…or healthy. So while 29 pounds is one hell of a great start, I have to steel myself that such results are NOT going to be typical. It took me the best part of 35 years to get here. Expecting it to disappear in 30 day is completely unrealistic. In fact, I suspect that 29 pounds might be the most I’ll see in one week. I have to be mindful of that an not get discouraged.

Blood sugar. Yesterday was a purge day. OK…ok…on the program it’s called a “Cleanse” day. Trust me when I say yesterday was a PURGE day…and I’ll spare you the details. Late in the afternoon my blood sugar began to fall. I measured it at 85…which is not good for me. So ONE ‘cleanse’ day at a time until my metabolism is better regulated. I’ve had no problem at all. It’s something I can talk to the Dr. about Friday.

SO…onward and upward…and a shrimp salad for my main meal today!!!

29 lbs. in 1 week? How? I detox, walk 2 miles 5 x week and have trouble losing 1 lb. a week. How?

That is an exceptional loss in a week B00, could be dangerous in the long run though, I guess. Hope you slow down a bit for the next weigh-in. Wanna tell us about the diet? I'm interested in losing a few pounds too.

Boo, sorry. I meant to congratulate you first, but got excited wondering how I could lose more also.

that is great news. I tend to agree with those who suggested that the 29 pounds was a lot of water weight, particularly since your blood sugar was up but no matter what it was it's 29 pounds of stuff you don't need gone and that is the point of the diet / program.

Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement.
Not sure about just all being water....part of this program has me drinking (or trying anyway) a gallon and a half of water. I can get to a gallon...any more than that is pushing it big time! They're also replacing the electrolytes as well.

It took me the best part of 35 years to get to where I am. Although in this age of instant gratification it would be lovely to see it all go away in a month...I'm not that silly... I realize that the loss will taper off a great deal. Still...even if I just lose 10% of that, that's a great start and I'd reach my goal in 10 months.

Sounds like water loss...don't expect the same weight loss every week if you stay on the diet. It's typical to lose a lot of water the first couple of weeks.

But hey, I didn't know you were that overweight.
