Canadian govt involved in human smuggling Canada, as many other nations, deports non-citizens who commit serious crimes. In most instances this is done with the consent of the country to which the person is being deported. That is not how it works in the case of Somalia. Those sent to Somalia are flown to Kenya. In Kenya a private company is hired for US dollars carried in cash by Canadian immigration officers to fly the deportee(s) to Mogadishu. The Canadians at this point are not in uniform. In one case the pilot did not take two deportees to Somalia, but landed on a small airstrip near the Kenya-Somali border. He deplaned the two men, and they were left stranded in the middle of nowhere. They started walking, and one was killed by hyenas in the middle of the night. The other man was found by some passing herders and taken to a nearby town. He remains in Kenya. When individuals sneak people into another country it is called human smuggling. What is it when a national entity does it? |

Maybe it's just a "technical computer error with their ticket?" I'm sure a good lawyer could explain it away and it did save the the extra airfare into Somalia, or was it just the pilot wanted to go home early and they were the last 2 on board so he kicked them off? The one killed by hyenas, well he shouldnt have walked into their territory right? Couldnt be the officers fault, even though they should have seen it through, after all they trusted the pilot........ hmmm. Pretty sad. The pilot changed the itinerary because landing at Mogadishu was too dangerous in his judgement. One of the guys dropped off in Mogadishu had never been to Somalia. He was born in Saudi Arabia of Somali parents and didn't even speak the language. At Mogadishu airport he was kidnapped and held for ransom. His father in Canada had to send money to get him released to an uncle who was still there.
