Foto Friday - O is for Obvolute Casting about for a word that begins with the word O I came across a new word for me. That word is obvolute which is defined as "rolled or turned in". This term, for me, describes the photograph that I have chosen for this week. It is an abstract and modified depiction of a photograph that I recently took. Overlaying this photograph are the Chinese characters for the "Tao de Ching". The Tao de Ching is translated as being "the way of changes". I first encountered this ancient text almost thirty years ago when I received it as a gift from a friend. The Tao de Ching is comprised of eighty one passages that describe alternative ways of dealing with situations. This literature is rife with wisdom that has withstood the test of centuries. It predates the Christian bible by more than one thousand five hundred years. In both the photograph that I have chosen and the Tao de Ching one's frame of reference is "rolled or turned in". If you have not had the opportunity to encounter this ancient text and desire to access it, I can highly recommend the translation by James Legge. |
