Hurricanes.....I have seen my share.

.......As Hurricane Irene bears down on the east coast I am reminded of previous hurricanes that has hit the Carolina coast. Back in the 90's I lived on the coast of North Carolina in a little town called Hampstead. On a small bluff you could look out and see the inland waterway and the Atlantic ocean just beyond some barrier islands......
........In 1996 along comes Hurricane Fran. It devastated us and cause a lot of damage. We had no electricity and no running water for 10 days. Generators were in short supply. So great was the demand those that had generators were selling them for $1500-$2000. Normally they sold prior to the Hurricane from $300-$500. Outrage over this blatant price gouging was everywhere. After everything got back to normal the Democrat controlled liberal legislature in their infinite stupidity passed anti gouging laws forbidding the practice. Everybody cheered until a couple of years later Hurricane Floyd comes along. Again devastation and flooding damaged large areas of the Coast. Again generators were in short supply. The difference was this time, was once the small generator inventory was sold out, there were no more. Why? because of the price gouging law. If a person in Tennessee had a bunch of generators to sell he was not going to transport them all the way to North Carolina and sell them for what he charged for them in Tennessee......
........Just another example of how do-good liberals screw thing up by interfering with the free market place. Now those in need of a generator could not get one at any price. If only the government would stay out of business and let the free market do what it does best our economy would not be as stagnant as it is now........
.....Those in the path of Hurricane Irene please prepare yourselves. If you do not know how contact those who do....

Its time to start reading the Bible, It will scare the Hell out of you...

I have been two while living in Houston. One of them we were out of electrical power for 10 days. Main thing to have water, flash light and food that does need refrigeration. You tape up your windows so the glass will not shatter to bad. Keep freezer closed and food will last about 3 or 4 days.

Hi Richard: We felt the Virginia earthquake here at 2 pm, then later that same afternoon we had a tornado warning. I wasn't sure what to do in either situation as we never have them here. There's no basement where I live so I don't know whether we are supposed to go outside or stay inside in an earthquake or a tornado? I wonder what the difference between a hurricane and a tornado is?? Very scary to be at the mercy of nature like that and just hope everyone on the East Coast will know what to do to be safe.
