It Is Good For Us

I found this article in a throw away magazine today. If we believe the research cited in this article social media sites help reduce stress. Sometimes it works here on SFF. Other times I'm not so sure.

I wonder why this would only pertain to women. I guess the implication is that women need to vent more than men.

I would say that some folks stress levels are pretty HIGH here on SFF currently, wouldn't you?

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I know I find it very relaxing to log on and go play little games like Majong. I find the music of the game soothing and for a little while, everything else just fades away.

It appears to be true, especially if you are a man and are on the receiving end of one of those rants.

If I understand you correctly, when women voice their opinions, they are ranting. When men do it, they are simply getting their points across.

I think in any way it's true. When I'm about to get stress, I log in and read some pleasant blogs. Then, I write something that comes to my mind or play a game like Scrabble or Freecell. Or make a slideshow, answer emails, etc. To me, technology helps to reduce my stress.

Interesting point. Perhaps the magazine chose this study to write about becasue it is totted to be a "Woman's" magazine. Yup, in addition to all of the other things I read to keep up with the "how to's" of landscaping, home repair, psychology and spirituality I occasionally read the women's magazines primarily to get ideas about what to cook. I get bored easily and like new and different things to eat.

It was a study of "normal" folks, not SFF blogs!

Ah yes, the old boys vs the girls of preadolescence. I wonder if we are going backwards or if some just never progressed beyond this stage? I'm risking getting "boy cooties" right now.

My thoughts are that it can't be that stressful for those who complain or they would not keep coming back. My thoughts? It's the perfect situation for control freaks and perpetual victims to play out their fantasies.

I tend to turn the music off on games and play other music or have the TV on in the background just in case anything of any consequence happens anywhere in the world.

Only for those who buy into the hostility. As someone who worked in the field of human services all of my professional career I enjoy watching the various dysfunctions interact as well as reading some of the interesting stories and activities of those who can manage to stay out of the bar room brawl.

Definitely true for me. I have several "followings" on FB to link me to sites and articles I find interesting, informative or inspiring. It also helps me feel less isolated from mainstream which is one of the biggest challenges at our age.

That would be most of my mother's family and why I left as soon as I could. Also probably a big reason why I settled here. So Cal folks are mostly laid back and avoid arguing. . I hate arguing. It feels like aggression, something I go out of my way to avoid to avoid. When it is as simple as a blog though it is easy to avoid.
