The Real Zombie Threat

I find myself frequently referencing the current proliferation of zombie themed shows and movies with remarks like “I use blue nail polish so the zombies will think I am already dead so won’t eat me.” Or “Come the zombie apocalypse……”. Joking aside there has been a proliferation of the zombie theme for disaster scenarios over the past few years. Zombies have replaced nuclear war as the main reason for the downfall of civilization / end of mankind. Have you ever wondered why? Recently I came up with a theory.

Nuclear war is not very exciting any more. It’s impersonal. Zombies on the other hand involve personal contact and include lots of blood and guts fighting, terror and screaming. Nuclear war is clean – turns everything to dust. Zombies are messy.

There is some Jungian undercurrent here. I can see fear of Zombies as an image for fear of what we are becoming - a society of walking dead, rotting, smelling and mindless, devouring our own.

Some scenarios suggest that zombism is a disease to be cured with a vaccine that take a while to develop and produce. In the meantime we resort to killing Zombies by shooting them through the head or if we are anti gun we can stab them through the heart or tearing their heads off with our bare hands. I'm glad I am pro gun. I don't want to have to touch the gross creatures with my bare hands.

So which will it be? Will we find a cure for our societal ills and save mankind or will we survive by hiding and defending ourselves from scratches that cause us to turn and killing off those who are infectious and or have them eat out brains ?

It's the Zombies on the blogs who are the biggest problem. Now if we could get them out of the way, this would be a much more welcoming and safer place. Don't you think so, Spirit?

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I am not being intentionally antagonistic but I really don't know what a grubbers is. Whoever they are they may well be zombies but so are most people in today's world.

And they starved, became disheveled and rotted from texting? Oh no!!!!!!I have a grand child who is really at risk. 3000 text messages in one billing period. Fortunately the plan has unlimited texting.

I definitely agree about video games. I often wonder if avid players of violent video games really understand the difference between game fantasy and reality.

I do but it isn't easy to get rid of zombies without splattering yucky stuff all over the place. Anyone up to cleaning it up?

Like vampires etc they are just someone's idiotic fantasy gone crazy amongst the foolish, or rather another creepy marketing ploy to remove a few bucks from them......... there's always a bandwagon of morons off on a tangent somewhere........

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Believe it or not I can't remember watching that video. My girls were young then and one loved Michael Jackson so I don't know how I could have missed it.

Also gives the special effects people something to work with. There are a couple of TV shows about Zombies here in the US that are actually comedies, kind of like the old Adam's Family show.

You may have stumbled on an original plot for a zombie movie - A big glob of ashes slithering around attacking people. In this case it would have to smother then though becasue it would have no teeth to eat them.

When you get time you can probably still find Thriller on you tube. I think it's still the most popular music video of all time, and was excellent. I loved your vision of cremated zombies. lol
