Photo Monday From Goldfish to Mermaid.

My youngest granddaughter has a fascination with mermaids. A couple of years ago, at age 7, she researched how to become one on the net and ended up with a "spell" to turn into one. Alas, she didn't even grow one scale. Her mother found a website where she could get a mermaid tail costume and a mono fin so she could at least swim like one. It was orange so she looked more like a gold fish. She loved it anyway and wore it out.

I found another one on line, this time in blue scale print material.
She gave it a go Saturday. It is amazing to watch her flip her tail like a real fish. Watching her perform made the day for an older disabled man out for some fresh air. The parents of the other at the pool probably aren't too happy with me though because their little girls all want one.

That is so cute. But Spirit, what a coincidence.... last night during the news they had a short segment where one of the local community centres decided to help the young girls taking swim classes & introduce them to 'mermaiding' . They had the the proper costumes, fins etc & indicated that only the strong swimmers were able to do this. But by the end of the classes, nearly all the young girls were into mermaiding. The instructor showed the newscaster the special method used for swimming as mermaids compared to conventional methods. It was quite fascinating!

Wow! What a treat for your granddaughter to swim like a mermaid!

I would love to see it in person...

I know grandparents are not suppose to have favorites and I don't but they each have things that I like best about them. In her case it seems to be perpetual "cuteness"..

I'm not saying she was anxious to get in the water but they weren't coming over until around noon. She was up and in her bathing suit at 8AM

That is interesting. I had no idea. It is hard to swim like a mermaid though. I gave one of the neighbor teen's monofin a try last year when Izzy got her first tail. It was way too much work for me. It's strange though because it seems logical that the momofin would be easier than kicking 2 separate feet in unison.

This kid needed no lessons. She managed to figure it out on her own but then she is a little kid.

I think most kids and teens and even some adults would like to do it. The place where I got her tail has them for adults too, in fact they have far more in adult sizes than children's..
