My Cat House Was Condemed!

Not the kind of cat house you might think. This one never produced any income, but on the other hand it never landed me in jail either.

About 10 years ago my in law's mother had a friend who was in the Navy and was going to be at our local base for a couple of month's training. She needed a temporary place to stay and I had room. I did not charge her rent. In exchange for a place to stay she agreed to build my long dreamed of cat house.

I had dogs and cats that did not get along. My solution was a "cat window" in my bedroom that opened into an enclosure built out of PCV pipe and mesh wire. That way the cats got to enjoy the outside and remain safe. I decided that a nice addition would be a "house" on the end of the pen so I could keep the cat box and food out there. My navy lady and her friends (they were all CB's - Construction Battalion) got a kick out of building a "cat house".

Time went by and I no longer had the cats and dogs that did not get along. In fact I no longer lived in the house, but the cat house and enclosure remained.

During a recent inspection ( needed because the house is a residence home) the city determined it was a "shed" and did not meet building code (the fact that I filled it with boxes of stuff may have been a clue.) Sadly the cat house will needs to come down. It will be relocated, expanded and used as a real storage shed, but that juts won't be the same as being a cat house.

Sorry to hear you have to close down the cathouse. I have noticed that there aren't too many of them around nowadays. Shame!

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I'll see if I can get a couple before it comes down. There aren't any that I know of. I don't think my son will tackle the project for a few days. I think my nephew has something similar for his GF's rabbits. I just realized that makes his a bunny house. Move over Heff. Will either a post or send you what I have via message.

Now that one sounds high class. We didn't have the coyote problem in town but there were cars in addition to my son's dogs. The dogs were initially fine with cats but once he taught them to get gophers and rats they changed their feelings about all small critters.

No plans for one at the moment but I've learned never say never unless you definitely want never to happen.

It is a shame. Maybe we can talk some of our politicos to start a campaign to being back cat houses.

Fortunately I no longer have cats that need it but reassigning the things in it was whole day's work. It was jars on the body and sad to go through all sorts of things I haven't used in a long time due to my current living situation and remembering what might have been.
