It Could Have Been

My sister posted this on my timeline yesterday with the caption "How did they get your childhood photos?". Not only do I love the photo, her comment is so true. My mother tried to make a lady out of me. All of the right stuff - ballet classes, music lessons, grooming class and make up classes , fashion classes etc. Unfortunately I ended up just like the little girl in the photo. With ADD in full bloom I could not focus of stick with repetitive activities.

You just had your own beat to dance to, Spirit.

Judgment Day will be interesting - and all paths lead there.

Even more extreme - forget dancing when there is a perfectly good bar to hang from.

This probably means all hope for sanity is gone by this time in life!

I always felt it is good to expose children to everything so they can find what strikes a chord for them as well as discover what they don't want. . Daughters, granddaughter and nieces all had ballet lessons when they expressed an interest. None of them stuck with it. Like you we stopped when they said they wanted to. My nieces went on to gymnastics then were recruited and got full scholarships for competitive cheer leading - again because that was what they expressed an interest in. When they did everyone got behind them and supported them 100% even if the rest of us deferentially weren't cheerleaders. We wanted to play in the game - and did. My nieces went on to be active in sports in high school and continue with their activities in college, although no longer on a competitive level.

I doubt any of us will at this point in life as most of us are finally happy with why and what we are.
