Off the Grid I’m heading off the grid for a few days. We weren’t able to do a lake trip this year. California is in the midst of a serious drought. There is no water on our waterfront until it rains again. The 2 older graduated this year and are on a class trip to Europe. My youngest grandson had to begin summer school only 4 days after the school year ended. Just one of those times when things couldn’t come together. My youngest and family decided to spend a couple of days camping in the high sierra. They rock climb and there are several challenges in the area. I volunteered to stay at their house and babysit the elderly dog. They decided I should go with them and watch both dogs and the 2 youngest while they climb. This may sound like something not so fun to some but I will love every minute of teaching yet another generation to appreciate nature, survive and be comfortable without electronics and once again being in the right environment to observe summer solstice. I will be able to take them around the area and show them things from their stepfamily’s history like the rock house their great great grandfather built, the abandoned lumber camp where their grandfather worked and all of the amazing natural things the area has to offer. Of course I never mind getting to spend time with the dogs. It will be a bitter sweet trip. This is the area my husband was from originally and where he and I spent time every summer. It is where our ashes will eventually be scattered. I haven’t been there in 12 years, since before he got sick but recently I have wanted to visit. There are so many beautiful classic mountain scenes and a wonderful place to connect with nature. We will be staying at a Forest Service camping area but still no electricity or cell / WiFi – a wonderful break from the noise and clutter of civilization and hopefully some down time to work on getting my web site designed. Hopefully I will bring back some good photos and most likely a story or 2 but may miss photo Monday. Be good and behave yourselves. I’ll check in when I return to civilization Spiritwoman ^i^ |
