Just Ask a

We joke about just asking a when we have difficulty with electronics.

Yesterday was my granddaughter's 13th birthday. I got her a fairly reasonably priced tablet, mostly for playing games. I had given her sister one for Christmas and she was insanely jealous even though she has a up to date Iphone, my old netbook and a couple of other gaming devices.

As usual I check out things like electronics before I give them to the . I could not get this thing to connect to the internet. Chuck tried too and 3 kinds of networks later it still got hung up and didn't connect. Of course it came with a warranty but after talking to tech support they decided it needed to be returned to the manufacturer for replacement or repair. Sadly that could not be accomplished in time for the birthday so my and I decided that it would be best to wrap the gift, let her open it, then explain what needed to be done.

We did and needless to say being a 13 year old she did some pouting then asked if she could try to get it to work. Our response "sure, go ahead", figuring that this might satisfy her.

It worked for her. She did nothing different and there was nothing unusual about the network she connected to! Not sure if the device suddenly decided to work or what but the gift of accomplishment she got is priceless. one of those moments "sense of accomplishment free. For everything else there is Mastercard."

WOW,,,I solved this problem by taking them for a burger or ice cream, then to the store for their gift and grandpa just picks up the bill and enjoy lots of hugs.

OH,and a view of the diamonds in their eyes.

.
The beginning of life, conception..

I guess the phone alarm is just another version of out old wind up clock. The devices change but the need remains the same.

I like your solution, particularly now that they are getting older. It's also a good way for some individual time with each grand.

This is the same kid who at 3 questioned me about my "user ID" when I went to use the family computer!

Like beary said, kids are pretty smart with these things nowadays.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

The interesting thing is that she didn't do anything different then we did. It just worked for her!

I love this. Chuck has some voice responses on his computer. My favorite is the one that announces an error message. It is from either Star Treck or 2001 A space Odyssey - "That can only be attributed to human error ".

I finally figured that out which of the 4 remotes to use when we got an update in the system and the TV control is now white while the others are black.

Like I said the sense of accomplishment was the best gift ever.
