There is No Escape

A professional group I belong to sends me regular announcements of job openings matched to my experience and skills. I am not looking for work but sometimes, like this morning, read through the jobs just to keep up with what’s going on. Given my varied work experience my list is an interesting combination of social service, education and art positions.

The one I selected to browse this morning got me off to a laughing start. It was supposed to be an art related job but the job description was a couple of paragraphs similar to the following:

“- Contribution and facilitation in expanding core ideas, concepts and style guides.
- Attend meetings, make decisions and give art direction supporting the high level project art and creative direction, report issues and art conflicts that would conflict with our goals visuals, performance, or scheduling.
- Stay up to speed on project documentation and pipelines and understand how all other departments feed into the workflow. Create documentation or propose pipeline changes as needed.
- Play the game “

A job for an artist? Sounds more like a politician to me. Are some of our political bloggers working as HR people for this company?

Gobbly-goop, I think.

So much 'junk' in it that it makes you wonder if they already have someone picked out, but have to 'go through the process'.

possibly, but this was so non specific it could be anyone in any occupation. Maybe it's a test. If you can understand speak the language you get the job.

Actually it was for an art director but no where does it refer to tasks that are art specific. I know technically if you have management "skills" (although I am not too sure what they are), you can manage anything but an art director with no background in art?

I agree. One of the ways of assuring a certain person for a position is to write the specifications to target that person's experience and education.
I couldn't find much specific in this info. The job title was the most revealing info - Art Director.

Salary wasn't mentioned but many of the "leads" they send me are in this category. I am sure it is connected to how well you "play the game"

Who is going to clean the fish? I'll cook them.

Sounds about right for most politically connected management jobs. The challenge is to figure out the game and make up rules they will go for.

Good - I was a bit anxious of having to depend on what we "catch" for lunch.

Like Bill you will have to find a place that is not frozen.

Good to know. Ours don't freeze here with with the severe drought they don't have much water in them.

We ice fish here in Canada....brrrrrrrrrr.

I'll clean it, but can't fillet well, so bake it whole and I'm in!!

Yummy!!!!!

I think we may have it all together. No problem baking the whole fish. I often do it that way or if they are small batter and fry them. Like you said - Yum.
