A Tale of Two Paintings

Today is Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. As with everything there are 2 ways to interpret this.

Today there will be more darkness than any other day of the year. The sun returns and the days lengthen slowly so we still have to face the cold and dark of winter. But every day on will bring more light so it is a beginning.

These are 2 paintings I did in the past few weeks with the Solstice in mind. I did the dark one first becasue it feels like winter but it didn't reflect the true meaning of solstice so I did the second and it ended up being part of my outdoor seasonal decorations.

Together they represent the choice we face daily – to acknowledge the dark or the light, to see things from the positive or negative. It is what it is but we choose how we see it.

I like them both, but prefer the second. Well done Spirit.

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

These are neat!

Favor?: May I use one as a backdrop for labels I want to put on CDs? I can't pay you, but I'd list u in the credits.

I'll understand if I'm asking too much.

Very nice artwork!

GBU,

Gavin

No problem. Maybe it will promote my art work.

Hope your cold moves on so you can celebrate your holidays as you would like. It's no fun when you don't feel well.

Another person who prefers bright colors. I started with the dark one but couldn't leave it as that.

looks like the preferences are mixed which is why I ended up with both.

Interesting how some of us seem to be hardwired to see things either way. I'm pretty much the opposite, usually see the bright side. As a silly personality test I took on another site puts it - "I am an annoyingly happy hippie"

Hope the gloom lifts and you find some enjoyment in the holiday season.
